Another quick Scratchbuild for ye as part of my Now Finished Ultramarine army.

I like the sternguard models but im not willing to pay that much for them. I dont have the SM codex so in terms of wargear I just copies as much as possible the loadout of the standart Sternguard from the GW website.
I wasn't trying to make anything better than the GW ones, just make them look diffrent from the rest of my marines.

As always, Comments and criticism is always welcome and much appreciated!

You play SM but you don't own the codex? Not even a pdf? Or army builder?

btw where are those helmets on the right from?

How different are they from your normal marines? Normally veterans have a good bit of white, in helmets, trim, shoulders, etc. This helps differentiate them from normal troopers. I like the way your guys look, but if they were next to a tactical squad, would I be able to tell the difference? Some people paint/model their entire army to that kind of standard (or better!) so without seeing the rest, I can't tell you if they are distinctive enough.

2 modeling clues tell me something is a veteran. White helmets, and the presence of the crux terminus. Now that I look closer 3 of your guys have crux shoulder pad, so that's good.

Very nice, I enjoy a muted pallet. I must know though, where are those helmets from?

I dont play the game, Just paint and build for fun and profit.

The heads are just cadian Vox helmets with the gap filled in.

I'm not the biggest fan of the helmets, they look like big footballer players to me now...(although) they do look cool, but the painting is very good. Very gritty and realistic, well done!

They look both great and distinctive, though the photographs is very dark, so it's hard to make out the details. As Nevelon said, it's hard to know how distinctive they are compared to the rest of your figures without seeing the others or your army as a whole.

Looking good, though.

Wow, I think they look great. The helmets are nice a change to the regular power armor stuff. Not for everybody but a nice change.

Very nice work.

Hard to see from the pictures, but I think your lasguns are showing. Nice conversion work on them.

They all have MK 1 Bolters with scopes excpet the melta guy and the Sarge.

The sarge has a bolt pistol made from an IG lasgun.

I too am not very keen on the helmets, Even after finishing the unit i was still tempted to swap them.
The theory behind them is simply that i wanted them to stand out a bit more from regular marines and didnt fancy white helmets.

The alternative would have been to fill in the gap completely so it looked like they had visors.

see, if you'd gone and finished incorporating the helmets by designing thunder armor, that would have completed the aesthetic, though, that's quite a bit of work...

edit: as an aside: does anyone know what the hell happened to the metal cadian sentinel driver head? I really miss those, I feel those were the best-sculpted of all the IG heads.

I don't care for the helmets, but I appreciate the skill of the modeling and painting.

The helmets give them an absolutely unique appearance which should distinguish them from your regular Marines.

In other words - mission accomplished!
