So I've been thinking: how do the Cenobyte Servitors in C: BT work in CC? Do they count as a separate unit, are they the same unit as the Chaplain (and thus de-facto a retinue) or something else entirely.
Also, in a slightly related question, does the Codex actually say anywhere that a Chaplain with Cenobytes may join a unit? I assume it's in there, but I can't seem to find it.

I would play it similar to the Fenrisian Wolves/Tau Drones. In other words, they form 1 "unit" but the Chaplain can still join another unit. They are basically wargear, but have a statline and wargar.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Even if they are a retinue the codex specifically states that all characters get screwed in CC and count as their own units for being hit.
I remember an example where the servitors were in another unit, so iirc the chaplain can still join things with them. Automatically Appended Next Post: The chaplain and servitors can definitely join a command or term command squad. Others I can't be positive on.

I played Ordo Malleus since before it had a codex. |

If its a retinue then they CAN NOT be targeted... they are basically an upgrade character like a sarge - re-read the section on retinues in the BRB

If they work like the SW fenrisian wolves (sounds like it) then in combat your opponent could target the unit, the IC or the servitors.

They CAN be targetted because the more specific codex rule says they can. Read page 23, from memory, of the BT codex
