So I have been thinking of starting a hordes army recently, and have recently tried a proxy game with Circle, and liked it... Now I am looking at their warlocks, wondering what list I would make... Kromac caught my eye as soon as I saw him, and as I continued to read his rules they attracted me... After reading the page on him here though, I got the impression he is a bit difficult to play? Is this true? If so, do you have any tips for using him? Or what about the other warlocks? Any other ones you would recomend me looking at? someone not to hard to play, but also not a complete point and click character?

When it comes to the actual build up of the army I was wondering: Is it worth it to do Kromac's fluff list to get the bonuses? Or would it be better to break from that to gain access to more units? What are your thoughts? And if you think I should break from the fluff list, are there any "Required" units (required as in "you would be stupid not to include these" units) or units to avoid?

And finally, any tricks/tips/advice you have for starting/playing this army?

Quick recap:
Thoughts on Kromac?
Thoughts on other warlocks to look at?
Should I keep to Kromac's "heart eaters" list?
Any units I need/should avoid?
Tips?

Thanks in advance

Houston

Kromac is the biggest beatstick of circle. On feat turn he is arguably the best melée caster in the game in terms of turning enemies into dogfood.

Tharn have some solid agressive units, made all the more frightening by the shapeshifting predator waiting to "shoot the gap" directly into vulnerable targets.

Circle is the fifth Warmachines/Hordes army I have, and personally I find it more difficult to successfully play than any other.
Most of the casters tend to be one-trick ponies, and when your opponent knows the trick, the game can go south for you pretty quick. Kromac is definitely a good caster, especially when you put Ghetorix, and some decent Tharn support with him. His Bestial ability shuts down arc nodes and casters and can be extremely frustrating for some casters, since very, very few spells can exceed his 14 inches of "no cast". Warpath and Wild Aggression are also fantastic spells.
Hes not a bad caster, but I'll take a Denegrah, Ravyn, or Baldur any day.

So, what I get from your response is 1) Kromac isn't the easiest to play, but by no means weak... 2) Kromac's Fluff list "the heart eaters" is viable, but not necessary 3) Circle in general will take a bit to learn, but will be easier later when I learn them?

More along the lines of "Circle is a good army as long as you do everything exactly right. It's a fun army, but it does not have the wiggle room that most Cryx or Legion armies have, for example - and sometimes despite your best efforts you will get ruthlessly stomped into the ground"

All right, well I'm always up for a challenge, and always have menoth to fall back on. Sounds good! Thanks everyone!
