I know that instant death negates the FNP rule. My question is this, if a wych has FNP from a pain token and is hit by something that has str 6 or more, does it allow for a FNP roll to be made? The instant death only happens from a str weapon of twice the toughness if the wound applies, so if the model has FNP can they ignore the wound so instant death doesnt happen, or does the model just die out right?

FnP cannot be taken against a wound which causes Instant Death. That means double your Toughness, force weapons, whatever...

If it inflicts instant death, no FnP.

You basically answered your own question.

Instant Death ALWAYS only happens if "the wound applies". You're trying to over-interpret something to read to your advantage there. To quote the Feel No Pain universal special rule, page 75 of the small rulebook: "This ability cannot be used against wounds from weapons that inflict instant death (by having a high enough Strength or a special rule to that effect; even if the model is an eternal warrior)."

So, yes, the model dies outright.

You can't save a wound that causes Instant Death with FnP. So if a wound will cause it to you then you cannot take it against that wound.

What is so confusing?

the confusing part is that the wound is ignored .... so if wound is ignored how would it cause instant death. just getting a clarification .. dont know why people got all upity about it.

Its a save that cannot be taken against wounds which cause Instant Death.

Step 1: take an armor/invulnerable save. If save is failed go to step 2.

Step 2: take a FnP save against the wound. If they wound causes Instant Death, never allows an armor save, or is AP1 or 2, you may not take FnP against it.

How is this hard?

Except a wound that causes instant death is NOT ignored as the rules clearly state.

Here is the order of operation for an assault cannon shooting a DE Wych with FnP.

Roll to hit
Roll to wound
Roll armour saves (if not negated by AP)
Check if Str of weapon is double targets T or has a special rule causing ID
If it does not cause ID, roll for FnP
