First requirement when making this list was using models that I really liked!

Turns out, most of them are in the Haqqislam Qapu Khalqi sectorial!

(I also own 2 Odalisques, but they get left our for now)

Good, bad, indifferent?

The Engineer isn't a necessity, and I could drop him and the 2 Nasmats for... something else?

I'll be honest, I stil haven't really played real games yet =)
But from what I can read, I think that I would change some things in order to have more orders and a complete link team.

Here's what I would do
Take it with a lot of salt =P

It's not "bad" but I am confused on a few parts.

1. What is the engineer and nasmats good for? You only have one unit with STR for him to repair.

2. You do not have any forward observers, how do you expect to mark targets for the Shaytaniyah?

You could always drop the engineer for a Hafza to help fill out linking the Djanbazan.

The engineer might not be really needed, but having one add to the cool fluffy factor imo
And it could potentially be useful against adhesive

As noted, I do have a Forward Observer - the excellent Al Hawwa' troop type!

And granted, the engineer might be a waste, but I like the model in combination with the Nasmats.

I'm not sold on it though, and could swap them out for... something else.

I also must admit that I love the newest Janissary model.

Plus, it helps add to the "Who is the Lt." question.

The Janissary with the AP rifle or the Djanbazan with rifle?

That might not be enough though, and it might make sense to throw in some Ghulam decoys there too...

Crap, how did I miss that forward observer...

I think it would still be worth trying out, personally I'd trade up the Engineer for a Hafza to increase the Djanbazan link though.

Or replace the Engineer with a Ghulam doctor so you can keep the Nasmats in there.

I've yet to try a force with a GML so take this theoryhammer with a handful of salt: My main concern tactically is that you've got only one Forward Observer, and you don't have anything else for the FO to mark for (like say a backup grenade launcher) given the very likely chance that the other player will send in something to deal with the GML remote.

Bit of a stretch, but I'd try to turn the Djans into a full 5-man link, but I can't imagine an easy unit to drop and tweak.

One FO is not going to be enough to make decent use of the GML drone.

You could always field the Najjarun model but use it as a Doctor which would make good use of the Nasmats.

Good suggestion on the Hafzas!

The Hafzas both give you a full Link for the Djanbazans (or a Link of four with the Janissary) and another two FOs. Looks good.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Extra tip - when using the Hafzas in a Link, don't forget the Flash Pulse as an ARO weapon - WIP 14 +3 for a full link and no negative modifiers until 32".

It doesn't do any permanent damage but it can really blunt an attack by the other player.

With all the Hafzas in the list now, I'm realizing I'm not 100% sure how Holoprojector L1 works.

I deploy the Hafzas with other miniatures as markers - for example, the Janissary.

Until otherwise detected, they all appear to be Janissaries?

I am confused too =P
Do you have to use a Janissary model to represent it ? A marker seems to go against the principle of this mechanic ( sorry, I really had no idea how to word this thought )

Afaict, you place them as any legal mini within your faction's army list of the same size, so I can't impersonate say an Aquila Guard (not in faction/sectorial) or a Maghraiba (too big to copy). But you do need a mini of the type you want to impersonate.

One thing that you can do if I understand things correctly, is do a straight up crazy link team, like say one composed of 3 Azrail and 2 Ghulams. Your opponent will know that some of the people in that link are Hafzas, but he won't know if he/she is facing a Deathstar unit (3 Azrails with Spitfire Hafzas) or a paper tiger (2 Ghulams and 3 Hafzas), and other shenanigans. I could be wrong about that though.

So I could impersonate a model NOT in my army list, but one that I own miniatures for?

Because this isn't seeming like a good deal to me!

I may have to switch them out for a model with Holoprojector L2, which is much easier to understand.

Maybe some Bashi Bazouks instead...

Yeah, you can impersonate anybody in your faction/sectorial. It's not a good deal monetarily when starting out, as you need to buy the Hafza AND the guys/gals you want to impersonate.

When you've got a solid collection though, the headgames you can play with this are incredible. One of the quick examples? Hafza (17 pts, iirc?) impersonating an Asawira (59) points. That hides away 42 points that you're free to spend elsewhere on surprise models, like a TO Tuareg sniper, or an HMG Ragik, that comes out of nowhere even if the opponent looks at your figs and figures that your pointage is right and you're not hiding anything.

You use whatever model is appropriate to the unit the Hafza is pretending to be.
