A small town at the foothills of the beautiful Cascade Mountains

Trying to build a German army for under $55.... How will this work? Too many tanks and AT?

Schwere Panzer Company HQ - 1x CIC Tiger I (225 pts)
Compulsory Schwere Panzer Platoon - 1x Command Tiger IE, 1x Tiger I E (430 pts)
Compulsory Schwere Panzer Platoon - 1x Command Tiger IE, 1x Tiger I E (430 pts)
Tank-Hunter Platoon - 1x Command Marder III H, 3x Marder III H (260 pts)
Gepanzerte Panzergrenadier Platoon - 1x Command MG, 1x Sd Kfz 251/1 or 251/10, 4x MG, 2x Sd Kfz 251/1 (155 pts)

1500 Points, 4 Platoons

Here is cost:
5 x Tiger IE - Point of Conflict - War Store = $20
5 x Sd Kfz 251/1 - Point of Conflict - War Store = $20
5 x Stands of Infantry - I had extra Germans from my many version of Axis and Allies boardgames (I cut bases from plasticard and glued them on....) = FREE (to me)
5 x Marder III H - Axis and Allies lot on Ebay from some dude in Hong Kong= $5
Shipping Warstore = $6
Shipping Ebay = $3
TOTAL = $54.00

Also, what is difference between Marder III H and Marder III M? I only see a 5 point cost difference.

Thanks - Mez

The Marder III H has a front armor rating of 1, the Marder III M rating is zero.

Are you sure these are 15mm? The figures I have for my version of the Axis and Allies board game are about 25mm, unless you mean the prepainted miniature game?

Also, I think you should look up some reviews of the PoC miniatures, they seem to be of terribly low quality: http://wargames.nordalia.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=198&Itemid=65

It will not cost you much more to buy the Sd Kfz 251/1 and Tigers (when they come out) from PSC, they are much better quality and only a few dollars more.

Yeah, I get the point about the upcoming PCS releases. I'm actually quite looking forward to the British 15mm infantry release later this year. But since I have three unopened boxes of PCS M4A4 Shermans still to assemble and a backlog of 40K stuff (Tervigons, etc.), I figure might be nice to get a pre-painted FOW army to learn the game with.... For about $50, I figure not too bad.

The Axis and Allies infantry miniatures appear to be about 20mm. The model head sizes are similar in size to the Flames of War miniatures, but the bodies appear a bit longer. I have a feeling that the Flames of War infantry might be a little out of proportion, in terms of head size to body size. This was probably a design choice and I think is common in smaller scales.

I'm more interested in the army list itself. Is it rubbish? Any comments?

Thanks so much everyone!

Mez

IMO, the Marder is a one hit wonder. You will have to expose them to take the shot and once exposed, they will be destroyed. I preferred to get higher armored tank hunters like the Elefant. BUT pointswise, the Hornisse with the longer range and higher firepower seems like a better deal than the Marders. At firepower 12, there are still alot of armor that can survive that. Of course 8 shots are better than 4 from the Hornisse. I would choose quality over quantity.

You are forgetting about the stormtrooper rule. Elefants are a huge point sink that will rarely, if ever, make their points back.

This kind of list isn't a good fit for Marders although if you are sticking to your budget they will do. Ideally the list would benefit from full strength panzergrenadiers, a panzer scout platoon and some nebelwerfers.

The prefect example of someone missing the point.
Do not underestimate the Squats. They survived for millenia cut off from the Imperium and assailed on all sides. Their determination and resilience is an example to us all.

Its just a shame that they couldn't fight off Andy Chambers.
