So i am going to my local GW's beginner nite for shiggles and it is all 500 point games

i thought about trying to mech up, but figured that i will footslog it with my IG.

So the two lists that I was thinking about were:
HQ
CCS: Meltagun x3, Standard, krak grenades

Troops:
PCS: Meltagun x3, Standard, krak grenades
IS: Plasma Gun, Autocannon
ISlasma Gun, Autocannon
ISlasma Gun, Lascannon
ISlasma Gun, Lascannon

or

HQ
CCS: Meltagun x3, standard, bodyguard x2

Troops:
Veterans 1: Plasma Gun x3, Autocannon
Veterans 2: Plasma Gun x3, Autocannon
Veterans 3: Plasma Gun x3, Autocannon

I am debating which list to use, i doubut that there will be any land raiders or AV 14 on the field so I am not worried about high AV vehicles, but was wondering which i should use, i am kind of leaning towards the first list because i doubt many armies can handle that many models at 500 pts.

i did this list at work, so i may be a tiny bit off on a couple point values, but i dont think so

If its standard force organisation chart then you're first list fails to meet the minimum troop requirement, if not then disregard this completely

Plasma guns in infantry squads might be good against high armour infantry but its also likely to cost you a few guys over the course of the game, melta is more reliable short range, and grenade is the dirt cheap option if you need more points but plas on BS 3 is a bit of a waste.

These are the 500pt variants I'll be running on a Noob Night sometime in the future. There's an average of 9 HWs and 7 SWs in each list, and some Chimeras for objectives. I think you'll be interested in the XENOS version the most.

High point cost HW/SWs are IMO not worth it for low points values, as AV14/AP2 are less prevalent.
You'll probably get more 'Bang' for your buck if you spread the points around. For ex. 1LC or 1ML and 1GL. The ML and GL will get more mileage out of Orders and provide some longer range assault firepower if the squads need to hoof it.
However there's never a good enough reason not to have some meltas laying around.

*Ignore the HB/HB Chimera it's not something I'd recommend taking, but I'm stuck with it.

First list fails to meet requirements for force organization ( as you only have one infantry platoon and would need 2 to fill your 2 troop choice requirement). Took me a while to figure that correctly too though. At low point values like this if your going to run a gun line (all troops shooting / no mech) you'll need a perfect deployment maximizing line of sight and minimizing risks of an early assault.

I feel like the standard and the bodyguard are wasted points in the second list. Standard will only help you in close combat which you want to avoid and body guards arent worth it.
Autocannons are fun, but you lose mobility from moving and shooting. Plasma are a waste in my opinion as I often roll ones and kill my own troops and they are an expensive upgrade.
This list will be difficult in objective based games with low mobility. I would invest in some chimeras if I were you and.run a mech vet list to be more competitive With a lot of melta and maybe a few plasma if you still really want them.

I should clarify something, we will be playing on 3x4 tables so there is already less room to manuever.

Also, my reasoning behind the plasma guns is that they are rapid fire and have 24 inch range, and with all of my HW, i dont plan on really moving much so hope to be shooting for as long as possible

and i know that once i am in combat i am dead, the standard is there so that if i am forced an LD tests in shooting i have a better chance of staying where i am

Also, i like Plasma guns as mine usually dont overheat(now they all will lol)
so here is a list that i think i have decided on that fulfills FOC

HQ:
CCS: Melta Gun x4

Troops:
PCS: Melta Gun x3, Standard

Infantry Squad: Autocannon, Plasma Gun
Infantry Squad:Autocannon, Plasma Gun
Infantry Squad:Autocannon, Plasma Gun

Veteran Squad: Autocannon, Plasma Gun x2

Total= 500

***i would have brought all missile launchers...but i cant find any of mine

and am trying to stay only foot list so thats why no chimeras

I'm trying to figure out how to answer a 500 guard list like the one below as orks without lootas:

CCS- no upgrades yet

1x veterans 3 flamers 7 shotguns
1x vets 3 plasma guns 6 lasguns
1x Valkyrie 100
1x vendetta (hellfury missles)

and this still has 20 points.

The thing thing about any discussion concerning why orks did something usually ends with because they are orks, and noone seems to argue, or offer further questioning.

This list is much better. Ditch the body guards and upgrade those autocannons to lascannons. Its going to pump out lots of accurate AP2 love.
