Holy Terra duhhh

What do I need to start airbrushing my GW models.

I have the paints and area for it outside.
I know I may need a compressor too.
I thought about purchase the GW airbrush, but some friends said don't get that,
get a professional one (but I don't wanna pay $200 or more).

Help Me Out with any ideas

Check ebay or craigslist for used setups.

If you get a compressor, get one with an attached airtank. That way you charge the airtank, and don't have to run the compressor the entire time you are painting. If you have a Harbor Freight near you, they tend to have inexpensive air compressors.
Make sure you get the appropriate fittings to drop the pressure so it's suitable for your airbrush. Teflon tape for the threads.

Airbrush like the badger chrome is only 100 bucks new.

Compressor is the expensive part. Make sure to get a moisture trap.

Check out WGConsortium on YouTube - he has a handful of videos on getting started with airbrushing that covers basically everything you need to know.

This Is Where the Fish Lives

You can buy a decent airbrush setup off of Amazon... I got a Master G44 for $27 and a Badger compressor (with an airtank, very important!) for $140 or so. That is around $200 but it is better to spend a little more money for a decent compressor and a cheap brush before you decide to upgrade to a "professional" brush. Bottom line: get a cheap brush and decent compressor and learn how to use it. After that, get a nice brush and master it. If you find you don't like it, you can sell the compressor on EBay or Craigslist to recoup some money. Or, if you are like me, you realize the advantages to airbrushing and love working with it.

When and if you decide to take the plunge, as some one else said, look into the Badge Renegade Krome. I am expecting one from my wife for my birthday in a few weeks. That brush is about $120 and is very popular in the hobby. But remember, the airbrush can't do it all. It just a tool we can use just like a cup of water and a brush. Also, stay away from the GW "airbrush" at all costs. Total junk. Don't fall for the spin that their insanely high priced hobby supplies are the best on the market. There is better everywhere, just ask around.

EDIT: you also do not need to airbrush outside. If you have good air circulation (window, fan, etc.), airbrushing acrylics indoors if perfectly fine. There isn't too much overspray and if you tape down some butcher's paper to your desk it will be fine. If air circulation is poor, you also just wear a painter's mask. You can get them from the local hardware store.

Welcome to airbrushing!!

its awesome!

Ok, a few things:

Yes, you don't want to get the GW one, its a terrible one.

Get a basic dual action internal mix brush with a compressor - even this is a great starter brush that will take a while to outgrow.

Then, do some searches - there are literally dozens and dozens of posts here and on you tube on this topic!!

Then let us know if you have any additional specific questions.

best of luck!!!

Check out this two threads here on Dakka, I'm doing the same, thinking about getting an airbrush, I think it will make my models 10 times better then brushes alone.

So good info from types of airbrushes and compressors to look for, as well as places to look.

Hope this will help you out
