I'm currently reading heresy rising and it sayd that astartes purge jokaero.
Since when and why did this change, or are inquisitors radical if they use them?

If I recall correctly, the Jokaero are not "sapient" in the way Humans, Eldar, Tau or even Orks are, but mere animals. Animals that happen to fire laserbeams instead of flinging their own droppings, but animals nevertheless.

I won't be surprised if they didn't even qualify as Xenos by Imperial standards.

War does not determine who is right - only who is left.

Pretty much this, Jokaero won't unite and form empires, they live like Great Apes (sans humans) in relatively small families. You might see a family of Jokaero, but not an entire city of them.

As I said a few months ago...

WH40k RT pg 197: If the Jokaero could be controlled they would be very useful to other races. However, this has proved largely impossible. They tend to build things which meet theirown immediate needs. Attempts at capturing Jokaero and compelling them to work can have disastrous effects- they build things with which to escape.

Yet another reason the GK codex makes no sense lol.

How old is that reference? Or is it recent?

I wish I had time for all the game systems I own, let alone want to own...

IIRC it says that they simply coerce the Jokaero to work, give them food to hang out with you and they start making stuff because it is what they do. When they make something useful you reward them and take it when they get bored with it.

Hard to entice one with a banana when it carries a food replicater in its invisible, hovering treasure chest of tools, toys and anything it wants.

How old is that reference?

They didn't retcon anything in the GK codex about the Jokaero. Except that Inquisitors were able to find Jokaero and somehow keep them around.

Thats not what I asked, and if they said that the inquisitors were able to find them and recruit them and keep them around then they did retcon it...retconning doesn't require a general announcement or anything, it can just happen. I was genuinely interested in how old it was, because that is relevant.

Sorry I thought you were trolling.

I thought the WH40k RT was enough...

My copy is 1990.

No, I don't troll (well not intentionally, I'm sure some of what I said has been flamey but its not meant to).

I wasn't sure if there were different editions of rogue trader that had been released or something like that, thanks.

40k fluff arguments almost need a similar rule to reference sections in my area at uni, where 10 years is about as old as you want to go with a source by and large, with obvious exceptions.

Wouldn't that be replaced by the newer conflicting (Barely) fluff?

The only passage in the new codex about the Jokaero is
"If a inquisitor can lure a jokaero into his service it will swiftly make a impact on the unit"
Or something along those lines.

Were the Jokaero completely eliminated (extinct)?
Perhaps a small number survived...

Unless the novel says otherwise It might just be that the Astartes shoot the space apes on sight - which kinda fits with their usual attitude to Xenos who can not be controlled or even communicated with...........

I AM A MARINE PLAYER

"Unimaginably ancient xenos artefact somewhere on the planet, hive fleet poised above our heads, hidden 'stealer broods making an early start....and now a bloody Chaos cult crawling out of the woodwork just in case we were bored. Welcome to my world, Ciaphas."
Inquisitor Amberley Vail, Ordo Xenos

"I will admit that some Primachs like Russ or Horus could have a chance against an unarmed 12 year old novice but, a full Battle Sister??!! One to one? In close combat? Perhaps three Primarchs fighting together... but just one Primarch?" da001
