Some notes before the list . . .

1) This is not a professional list. I've played 4 games of 40k total, 3 of them w/ nids and always VS grey knights (1 game at 500pts and 2 at 1250, you can probly guess how they went).

2) I misread and thought Tervigons and Carnifex were made from the same kit (its Tyranofex and Tervigon apparently). I found a deal on 3 of them on ebay (already assembled and primed for about $20apc for the 3) and figured I'd just make them Tervigons, but now that I know it's a different sized model I've ended up w/ 3 carnifexes in the army untill I can afford to phase them out for other units.

3) Alot of this stuff came from ebay so most of the stuff is stuck w/ what's on the model for now. This is pretty much all the models (Ive got 2 more termagants...) I own untill I can buy more stuff.

4) I'm mainly lookin for advice on what I can do better w/ what I've got (ex: better upgrade choices), strategy advice, and what purchases would be good down the road as I can afford them.

HQ- HIve Tyrant w/ devourers, lw/bs, HC, OA, armored shell.
(lw & OA kinda helped when I was fighting the GKs, HC for the pods/reserve guys)

2 Tyrant Guards w/ lw/bs
(again lw helped vs GKs, and hopefully my tyrant will survive longer w/ these guys. bs is there to prevent armor saves if I remember correctly {dont have codex w/ me atm})

435pts

Troops- 2 units of 9 Genestealers each w/ ts/ag
(didnt use ag last time, but some guys in his units were also init6 so I figured that +1 might make more of my genestealers survive the initial assault. will outflank if theres no decent place to
inflitrate.)

10 Termagants w/ ts/ag
(usually lurk on an objective on my side of the board, these will do more when I get a tervigon)

430pts

Elites- 2 Hive Guards
(everyone knows what they are for)

1 Doom in Mycetic Spore
(havent tried him out yet, but I figure Ill drop the pod near a psker for sitw or near some infantry troops)

230pts

Heavy- 1 Carnifex w/ crushclaws, bio-plasma, and Mycetic Spore
(walking these guys across the board didnt work so I'ma try and pod in within shooting range. bioplasma is there so it can shoot. crushclaws came already on the model)

1 Carnifex w/ HeavyVenomCannon and Mycetic Spore
(another one to pod into range. came w/ hvc on the model)

1 Carnifex w/ crushclaws
(crush claws came on the model, no more points for a pod so I guess this guy is gonna lumber forward and maybe draw some fire. would be nice if he manages to assault a vehicle though)

655pts
1750pts total.

Basic plan is to go second, try to deep strike/outflank to counter what the other guy is trying to do. Carnifexes will pod in, shoot at something, then probly get in the opponent's way or try to assault a vehicle. Will be about 2 weeks before I get a game again, probly against dark eldar (the gk player's other army).

Tenative purchase plan: Another Hive Guard to make the unit 3 strong, a Tervigon and a bunch of termagants, and a Trygon. I'll be phasing out the Carnifexes first to make room for the other stuff. Eventually I'll probly try to do another unit of Hive Guard and another Tervigon if I can find cheap bulk termagants. I've thought about a Deathleaper because it would be kinda fun to lower the Ld of the enemy's psyker then drop the Doom in a pod beside it, plus that contest an objective by popping up w/ chamelon skin on the last turn trick, but idk if it's worth the points.

Anyways, there's my beginner list I've made mostly from ebay stuff (I did get the 2hiveguards, 2tyrantsguards, and DoM from flgs). Let me know if anyone has any play tips, advice on revising this using my current models, or advice on future purchases to make the list better.

An Igloo Deep North in Canada, eh?

Just a quick thought: take the Mycetic spore from the HVC Carny and give it to the one with just Crushclaws. The Carny with a gun can walk and shoot, so he doesn't need the spore as bad.

Both players should be using the least durable units possible, with the house rule that all players remove an article of clothing every time you lose a unit, and take a drink every time you kill one of your opponent's units.
I have no idea which army will be triumphant, but I can assure you that everyone wins.

why not just convert the fex's to tervigons? almost all conversions are based off them since it took GW so long to release the kit

I have half a mind to kill you, and the other half agrees

not a bad idea about switching the spores, I might do that.

I havent tried converting anything yet, but I won't rule that out. I was under the impression that tervigons were a different size, I havent had a chance to look at one in person yet.

Also the carnifexes from ebay have a rediculous amount of glue on them, I'd need to figure out a way to dissassemble them w/o breaking them.

Shame those fexes are all glued up. Those arm sockets are perfect for magnets - although I admit my first fex is all glued up. I have though cut a fex in half, built an egg sac and turned him into a tervigon though. I've had no complaints yet, but just be generous on cover save rulings for them and you should be fine.

Well done on getting tyrant guard and hive guard on ebay. The ones I see almost always end up going for as much as new from an online seller!

I would really try to get that extra mycetic spore in the list for the 3rd carnifex, even if you have to say drop a few upgrades elsewhere.

The Tyrant setup isn't too bad, however old adversary is a bit pointless. Reason is the Genestealers will infiltrate or outflank, which means they will not be in position to use old adversary, and Termagants, well meh.

You do not need two Tyrant Guards, one is fine and gets cover easier.

Termagants with toxin sacs and adrenal glands and lurking in your corner of the board are pointless. These are combat upgrades and you're not getting them into combat, not that they will do a lot. Keep the Termagants, as they make a great objective holding unit, but lose the biomorphs. You only take these biomorphs on a Tervigon as it gives these upgrades to the Termies for free.

Those Carnifexes are uber fail, especiall in Pods, shame they are glued. Can't you get a knife on them and cut the stuff off and add new bits? I mean if they had double devourers then they would be lethal in a Spore.

Thanks for the advice!

The old adversary was to give the tyrant/guards the re-rolls on the misses. I didnt really think about it hitting the other units since alot of stuff is going to come from reserve.

Good point about the upgrades on the gaunts, I'll drop those and see what I can do with the points.

Carnifexes will be phased out as I get more models. I never thought about cutting one in half, I may give it a shot since I've got 3 anyways. If I can find a deal on some bits I may try popping off the carnifex's crushing claws and stuff with a little screwdriver.

Also thanks for the link I'll give that a read.

(oh I got the 2 hive guards, tyrant guards, and the zoan from a shop, the rest was from ebay)
