For those of you who haven't noticed, Mephiston Red is nowhere close to Mechrite Red. I'm not sure why GW make that comparison, but it just isn't correct.

Seeing as Citadel have completely abandoned this very fine and lovely shade of red, have any of you found a good substitute from other paint brands?

It is most annoying for me as I am down to my last quarter of a jar (are they called jars?) of Mechrite and half of my army are already painted in that shade. I asked the staff at my local GW for advice and they suggested throwing my painted figures away and buy new ones to paint in Mephiston! Yeah, right...

Sooo... I haven't worked with any other brand of model paint so I'm turning to you for advice. Is there a good equivalent for Mechrite somewhere out there?

Khorne Red is, in my experience, a much closer match to Mechrite Red.

I know your pain, got half way through painting my Tech Priests Chimera ran out of Mechrite so bought Mepheston and i had a totaly different colour on each side had to go through a repaint the whole tank.

However once i used a Agrax Earthshade wash on it, it does look closer to Mechrite.

My condolences on the terrible position you are in. Have you looked at the Vallejo range? They carry a huge range of colours, and it's likely you'll find something close to Mechrite in it.
I'm currently hoarding my remaining 5E paints, and only using them for important models or ones already in progress.

Vallejo Heavy Red is extremely close to Mechrite Red. I use both and I can't tell which is which once the paint is dry on a model.

Khorne red.

Recently compared some newly painted minis that I used khorne red on to some from the same range that I had used mecherite on, such a perfect match I'd forgotten I hadn't used khorne on both.

I've heard some people got some very bright mecherite red pots that were closer to mephiston, but not exactly sure on that.

Khorne red should be indistiguishible.

I'm gonna say, from the swatch above, Wazdakka red is almost identical.

Wazdakka Red is pretty good, but noticeably lighter in colour.
Khorne Red is definitely the way to go.
