Hoping to get some advice on one of my two newest lists! All advice is welcomed!

Hoping to focus on being more warbeast heavy with this army, like my Cryx.

Its a good list but lylith cant run that many warbeasts on 5 fury.

I would recommend taking of one of the warbeasts and thorwing in a unit and another solo (swamp gobblers, they ccan provide lylith and the sheppard with some protection for only a point)

If your looking at that list and dont have the hordes rulebook the new 2p starter kit is coming out in 2 months you can sell the circle army that comes with it or split it with a friend that way for double the price of the warpack you get a the rulebook and 2 complete armies (including legion)
It fits well with this list

Shredder missles via feat turn plus Manifest Destiny.

Put up buff on Carni + Spiny Growth, and you have a sturdy beater, with the Ravagore and Shepherd combo applying ranged pressure.

He only has 3 WB pts so you'll either need to remove a shredder or downgrade the Carni to a Scythean (longer range, no spiny growth).

What does eThagrosh focus on?

Sounds like an interesting combination, but I would rather remove a Shredder.

I'm basing this all on the starter box.

After everything has ended its activation, eThagrosh's feat lets his beasts full advance and make one attack.

Add in the spell Manifest Destiny which adds an additonal die to attack and dmg rolls and drop the lowest and you have Rabid shredder who force to go rabid and run 16", then move 6" with effective boosted attack and dmg rolls... With enough shredders you can decimate their lines.

Then you add in Dragon's blood which gives +2 ARM, plus a Carni so now you're looking at an ARM 22 beast also close by with frenzying shredders everywhere and Ravagores shooting from a distance. Its good times.

I personally don't run the Shredder spam list as its been done and if they see it coming (which most will) it can be prepared for and managed. I prefer the Legionaires+UA with Dragon's blood for a very solid tarpit backed up with the Spawning vessel to jam their lines. Then have a Ravagore for ranged Pressure, Deathstalkers for solo hunting and fill in with heavies for handling their ARM. I do however love Typhon so I usually ditch the DS for him, although I'm sure thats not the best idea. Here's my 50pt list ATM I enjoy playing. Shredders are there to provide tenacity/transfer batteries and to launch at crucial solos that need to die. Vassals, Choir, Eiryss, Rhupert, Gorman etc.

Is getting the starter box a good idea? I mean, this is my first Hordes army, and I learned a lot about warmachine and Cryx playing the starter set for Cryx. So maybe it's the same for Legion and Hordes?

The battlebox is fine. It gives you an easy caster to start with and nothing but beasts which actually is what our faction does well. It doesn't include any fury management and pLylyth is only fury 5, so your shredders will most likely frenzy a lot, but thats ok, its what they do most of the time anyways.

Cryx battlebox puts one of their best casters (which incidentally is one of the top 10 in the game) with the box, so it feels VERY strong whereas the Legion box is a lower tier caster powerwise. It doesn't mean its bad or doesn't work, but you will feel a strong difference in power in direct comparison. I do feel it gives your a nice taste of what legion is all about and its a nice starting point.

Other things to get if you have the $$$: 2 Shepherds, 1 Forsake (can grab another later), 2 Deathstalkers (OMG they are greatness), and the Legion heavy plastic kit.

Do you think the battlebox would help me understand Hordes more? I want to mostly get the mechanics down before heading all over the place purchasing things. I can already see I kinda got ahead of myself with this list. I should probably learn firsthand my strengths and weaknesses.

Battleboxes were designed to help new players get a feel for the faction and how the mechanics work. It will be just fine until you get a grasp on the Fury mechanic.

Don't worry about getting anything else until you feel comfortable with how the game flows and know what you want to expand into.

Thagrosh is sounding like my guy though when I change warcasters. I wanted this army for lots of warbeasts, and he apparently can run them the best.

I ran him last night twice at 35 pts.

It was rediculously fun to play. My shredders ate a Warpwolf stalker and then tied up Megalith who got charged by my Scythean and got handled by Manifest Destiny (Best spell, its greatness.)

Then I played against pSevi and it was a grind fest. Zealots ran into my shredders and popped mini feat becoming invincible. I prepare my guys for the next turn. Zealots and Errants kills some shredders. Manifest Destiny plus feat kills all zealots and most of the Errants. Last few Errants charge my Scythean and put some hurt on him and tie him up. Avatar wrecks all the shredders. Down to Avatar plus support and Errant UA leader and a Revenger vs. Thags, Carni at full (Dragon's Blood plus Spiny Growth = ARM 22 hehe) and a half dead Scythean. Because the terrain was wonky, it enabled me to engage on my terms. I two handed throw the revenger into Avatar so he can't enliven away, and Scythean charged a KD Avatar, killing him.

Wow. Thags sounds awesome! And certainly sounds handy for the list I wanna run!
