Subject: Legitimate female-orientated armies?

Hi all.
Just in the last few months got into the hobby (Got an ork army at the mo, and I do like them quite a bit)
I just wanted to ask about female-orientated armies, what there is, what is one that isnt ridiculously expencive (Sisters of battle o.o) But still holds its own reasonably well in a fight.
The army doesnt have to be 100% female like the sisters, but as long as it had a good healthy mix in there, that would be fantastic. It wouldnt have to be super-budget, but as its my second army I can't throw hundreds and hundreds at it.
So yeah, Average win rate + not too expencive + female models =....?
Please help, and the more different suggestions the better, as then I get a choice. I would also add, I like badass as much as the next person, so they don't have to be supermodels or silly spandex-marines or something

There aren't many female armies or figures because women make up a very small portion of the player base, and well, women aren't traditionally associated with warfare (for a lot of reasons that aren't appropriate for discussion here before anyone opens that can of worms) so aren't traditionally modeled except as cheesecake style renditions by modelers who most likely lived with their parents well into their late twenties.
In 40K though, you'll find female models in the ranges where it makes a bit more sense in their fluff. Dark Eldar and Eldar, where both the men and the women are built like women, there is the largest percentage of female models like previously mentioned. But it's around 1in 4 from what I can tell. Maybe slightly higher than that with the Dark Eldar. After that, there's the handful of female IGuard figures that have come out, of which I think I can name maybe ten? The two lasgun troopers from RT, the autocannon from RT, Warrior Woman and Rocket Girl from Last Chances, female Catachan with grenade launcher, limited run female Commissar (Games Day model maybe?), the Tanith one, the two power armored adventurers from Rogue Trader.. that's all I got but I'm sure someone will remember a fig I'm overlooking. It's important to note that all of those figures are out of production, and typically sell for a fair chunk of change on EBay, and it will be incredibly time consuming to try to acquire them in any quantity, so I wouldn't consider them an option. Just figured I'd include them for completeness.
There's been some people using Hasslefree's Lady Soldiers as IGuard (even though their poses are kinda cheesecake too, the quality of the figs are nice. I've got one in my gallery next to other GW figs or you can Google them pretty easy), but that's going to require quite a bit of conversion if you plan to play any competitive games that stick by whatever GW's current rules are for the % of the figure containing parts having to be GW or Forgeworld produced.

Tau. Since nobody knows if there is a noticeable difference in Tau physiology under all the armor. But Tau don't discriminate based on gender.
And the Kroot don't discriminate based on gender lines and nobody outside of Kroot can really tell which gender they are.

I'm expecting an Imperial Knights supplement dedicated to GW's loyalist apologetics. Codex: White Knights "In the grim dark future, everything is fine."
"The argument is that we have to do this or we will, bit by bit,
lose everything that we hold dear, everything that keeps the business going. Our crops will wither, our children will die piteous
deaths and the sun will be swept from the sky."

Done a little research, and discovered a good amount of female daemons (daemonettes). Could they be used to create a female (Albeit scary daemon female) orientated army? Like I say, I like the fact they look badass rather than trying to be supermodels in spandex armour. But could an army with lots of these "Slaneesh" models work?

Also, while I like the Tau, I like the idea of my models being noticably female, rather than completely indistinguishable so I have to constantly think "Yeah, they could be female under there...under all that completely obscuring armour"
Same goes for tyranid's. Whicl they are also badass, they are not really female in appearance. They are just monstery monsters, you couldnt tell by looking if they were female unless they had a whacking great big egg-batch on their back or something
Guess I should have been more specific and said noticably female humanoids

I use one, they work through weight of numbers it seems. They're kind of fragile, but rending everywhere. Think Orks with no shooting, but with a 5+ save that doesn't vanish with bolter fire.

Well if you are willing to use Green Stuff or can use non-GW models you could make female IG, you could also try Eldar or Dark Eldar, although if you want mostly female soldiers you will either not use a lot of parts or will need to get parts from bitz dealers.

I think I have decided to go with a chaos daemons army, with a focus on slaneesh units. Gonna make a new post asking about how best to go about that now

Imperial Guard would work absolutely fine as female models. They'd have to be non-GW, obviously...

Imperial Guard, Tau, Tyranids, Dark Eldar, Eldar and Daemons will all make female armies. (Since you don't want sisters)
If you want an army of little boobies then its Dark Eldar, Eldar and Daemons.
If you really want to save money its Dark Eldar for you.
You won't save money on Daemons as you will have to sculpt boobs on all the non daemonette models.
The new daemonettes are terrible. That means you'd be spending alot of time and money finding and buying the older sexy versions.
The Eldar only have 4 females per box. Dark Eldar Wyches have 4 males per box. Venoms come with extra bodies so you'll find more boobs there.
I too once dreamed of a boob army. Tons and tons of daemonettes, wolfen models from Confrontation with head swaps, sisters repentia, reaper naked ladies...
In the end you have a ton of half naked women at different sizes.
Dark Eldar is now the only army that can be reped with all female models without spending a fortune, or making a ton of conversions.

The new Daemonettes aren't that bad. If you take a trip up to Warhammer World, check out the Handmaidens of Sotek display.

If you are looking at a Slaanesh daemons army you can get a good army for cheap. However I would recommend that you go a little extra mile in making the army and do some minor conversions.
Fiends are one of the best units in the entire daemon codex. However they are also incredibly hideous models. There was a guide around the interwebs (including a version of it here on dakka) where you take the new plastic daemonette models and mix them in with the spiders from the goblin spider riders in fantasy. Since you will only ever need 18 of them its a decently cheap conversion but will make the army look a lot better.
As for daemon princes and your Keeper of secrets. There are plenty of great models to choose from. Some of them however are on the expensive side (Forgeworld KoS is around 140$ right now). But if you look around you can find some, maybe someone will even post some they have found here.

The 3rd edition Fiend is awesome, despite having 6 breasts and a vulva, but probably costs a fortune.

I don't mind having male demons in the army, as long as they are not the big focus of it. I especially don't mind those pink horror thingies, because they are pretty much all completely genderless anyway. I also don't mind having some khorne stuff in there, just as long as it doesnt make up the majority of the army. Don't have to graft boobs on them all.
Also, I checked up on the old daemonettes, and I actually like the new ones. I want my models to look badass and deadly, not sexy Too many gals try for sexy armies from what I've seen, and it just doesnt fit into 40k in my eyes.
The only model Im going to be making truly custom, is a female daemon prince (so, princess really ) and that will be coming pre-made.
So yeah. They don't all have to be female. But as long as there is a focus on them.
Dark eldar from what im seeing when im searching sites, is going to be a heck of a lot more expencive to get to 1500 for a good army. But, ill have a think about it, thanks all
