Drop Trooper with Demo Charge
|
Ive not played 40k in many years and havent got a full grasp of the latest rules yet.
An old college friend wants to play around 1k.
I was thinking of this list
HQ
Big Mek with KFF and PK
Troops
Deff Dread with rocket launcher
10 Choppa boyz with PK Nob
20 Shoota boys with RL
Elite
4 Grot tanks with RL, Kommanda with Kustom mega-blasta
Fast
Grot Megatank with 2 TL RL and 3 grotzookas
Heavy
3 Killa Kans with RL
Big squiggoth (which will likely transport the choppas)
The model count seems quite low for orks and I was wondering if i should drop something heavier for more boyz.
I dont know exactly what hes got, but ive seen a blurry picture which has a dreadknight, a dreadnought, razorback, land raider, and what appears to be 4 squads of 5 marines.
Any suggestions

First off, your list is illegal to start; Grot tanks, Grot mega tanks, and squiggohs are all in apcolayspe only. When you play GK, you want as many Boyz as you can throw at him, because chances are, he's gonna kick your ass with the dreadknight's Flamer (which is cheap I might add!). He'll most likely not be fielding Terminators, but it's a good idea to have burnas; he plays underlings, you flame him to death. He fields power armor, you don't flame him and use them as power weapons in the assault. It's a good idea to have 10-15 burnas in one squad with with no upgrades in a battlewagon with deff rolla, Grot riggers and RPJ, as well as a BS for weapon destroyed results. Troops, you want 2-3 squads of 20ish Slugga boys and nobs with PK and BS. Take the PK off of the Big Mek, because he's more of a support HQ instead of a assaulting HQ (like a Warboss) and maybe stick him in the burnas with a burna of his own.

I was working from Imperial armour apocalypse second edition. The grot tank mod is allowable if theres big mek and the grot megatank is allowed is the army includes the grot tank mob. I dont have any burnas at the moment, but ive got a bunch of fantasy orcs that should be easy enough to convert

Okay, didn't know you were using those rules. Problem is with Orks is they are a mob of "rush 'em, bash 'em, smash 'em!" sort of lot. They don't really have survivable vehicles (except Battlewagons) and don't make good elite armies.

I like the idea that you are running with. Do you have access to the IA 8 book? If you do there is a list in there called the Dread Mob. You have access to the grot tanks and dreads and kans as well. there are no Squigoths thouogh. But I think you will be more then happy with the list.
GK's are a tough to play agianst with Orks. Especially if he has purifiers. Stay away from the at all costs. Shoot them alot until they are dead and then shoot them some more. Trust me.
I think at 1k 30 boys are enough. I am just worried about the 10 man squad. They don't last very long. If you drop the squigoth you can add 10 more boys to the sluggas and mayeb add 3 more kans to help provied a wall of armor. Dread should drop the rokkits for something like BShootas or a skrocha and an extra claw. Keep him simple and cheap. Keep the rokkits for the grots. They hit better anyways.
Anyways I hope this helps a bit.
