Title says it all, bit curious to see if anyone else here plays it

If you have no idea what Super Robot Wars is, imagine most of the various Robot/Mecha Animes and then mash them together in a grid based tactical RPG with some loose storyline to linked them all together (which is just an excuse to see robots beating each other up!)

Though I suppose for those outside Japan, theres really only the Original series which only contains the completely original and separate Banpresto robo series for the GBA. Still fun though. Though a few of the normal SRW have been fan translated, only a few though (J and Alpha Gaiden come to mind)

A little, but mostly just original generation on the GBA.

I quite love the series. I have played and beaten Original Generation 1 and 2, and have considered binge playing the rest of the series. The only problem is that I wanted to wait to start until I was fluent in Japanese, but then I thought it might be good practice.

Decisions, decisions.

I used to play a few of them. I started with SRW3, never finished it and went to 4, which I finished.

I then played F-Final on the PS1 ones and the GBA ones.

I kind of liked the original 'originals' to the Alpha ones, though didn't Winkysoft cause problems with using them?

It was SRW4 that introduced me to L-Gaim.

Played OG1 and 2, and they were fantastic.

Saga Frontier was terrible. I love Xenosaga, so Kos-Mos was a bonus, the combat visuals were fantastic, and the battle system was fun, but everything else about the game was so bad that the rest of the game was brought down.

It's a pretty cool series, and I love the sprite work, but its Japanese exclusivity stops me from playing any others in the series.

Seriously. I bought Saga Frontier, and was immediately disappointed. Like boy howdy was that game terrible.

It's even more disappointing when you consider the potential that was there. The basis for an amazing combat system, brought down by horrendous world design and terrible writing, even moreso when you remember that it was made by the same guys who made Xenosaga. THAT Xenosaga.

It was a game that could have been incredible, but because they were too lazy to polish the product, it ended up being terrible. Sad, really.

I hope however translated that translates project X quickly

Edit: Right I forgot that Endless Frontier has a 2nd game. I heard it was improved a lot over the first game. But SURPRISE, its Jap only again

For those of you who played OG1 and OG2, which were your favoured pilots and mechs?

Whoever could do the most damage with valor

I hate end game bosses

Though mad props to Sanger for riding a mecha horse. Plus hes gonna be in Project Cross, without his mech of course

Too bad he tried to kill us in Alpha Gaiden

From what I understand, sales of the first Endless Frontier game weren't as good as expected. So Atlus isn't likely to localize the second one for North America.

I've finished OG1 (Kyosuke route), got to the last (non-bonus) mission in OG2, and played through about half of Endless Frontier.

As far as favourite characters go, the above combo definitely gets brownie points.

Kyosuke and Alt are also fantastic. Really, there were a lot of great characters and mechs in the game. Too many to just list.

Generally all of the cooler plot-based mechs, i.e. R-1, 2, and 3 with their respective pilots (though I like the SRX more than their separate parts), Ryoto and Ryo in the Huckebein Gunner, and the Alteisen and Rein in their upgraded forms.

Although I thought it was awesome when Rai piloted the Huckebein Mk. III.

I always had a soft spot for Huckebein Mk.I, the one with the black hole gun. It was the first original I got apart from the Geshpenst you start in from SRW4.

Probably the Gespenst for me.

There were others, but this is the one I remembered the most.

Hucky 3 was always my favourite mech in the series. Such a simple, straightforward design that managed to have a lot of personality, all while perfectly capturing the spirit of 'real' robots.

Holy crap they made a Huckebein Boxer model. Never knew that! Must have.

I have a model of the Dizengar and Hucky 2. Nice models. Although time and pets (and parents who think it's cute when the pets destroy my things) have done a fair bit of damage to them, and they now spend their time boxed up in a closet.

I have a model Cybastar lying around actually. That one is the original original, from Super Robot Wars 2 on the NES; his theme is the theme that played on the title screen of that game. (SRW1 was a Gameboy game and had only licenced robots)

I can't stand the Cybuster. I'm all about hard angles man, boxes everywhere. Smooth curves on mech make me cry.

Have you seen the rest of the Masou Kishin then?

Nope, and the Cybuster's a big reason why. >__>

Also laziness.

Have they put the Inspector (SRW4 villains) into an originals game yet?

As I understand the Alpha timeline is different to the original timeline, but Guest and Inspector are still there.

Looking at it, OG1 with Divine Crusader was based on SRW2, OG2 had SRW3 in it (Greaterkin, Guest and so on). Was there an OG3?

There was Original Generations, a remake of the first and second on the GBA. That's about as close to a sequel as you get.

There were Inspectors in the second OG I think.

Not yet. I hope there is going to be one though, they still have some OG characters to put in such as the people from SRW J

Did the OG game on the playstation add in anything storywise? And why is it not in english!

The OG game on the Playstation 2 was a combined OG1 & 2 into one game.

As Daba said, it combined the first and second into one game. However, it also added a bunch of new content, including mechs and characters both brand new and from older games in the series. It also changed a few points in the plot and added a bit to make room for the new content.

It never came over here because Banpresto hates English speakers.

Since the OG series mixes the alpha and original series, I wonder if OG3 will have Balmar & Guest? (supposing they make it)
