Rochester New York

Announcing the 2012 DaBoyz GT!

We are back for the seventh year in a row! We took last year’s comments to heart and this year the GT will be held back at the University of Rochester campus. It is great space to game and close to many great places to eat and drink. We will be using the new 6th edition 40k rules and therefore will not be running comp at the 40k event. There will probably be other changes to our 40k event as well which we will update after 6th edition starts being played in the few months after release. For example, notice that no sample missions are posted yet because we are waiting to see how 6th edition changes the game.

Just like in the years past we will have great times and great prizes, including awesome hand-painted trophies!

Here is the basic info:

DaBoyz GT November 9th - 11th 2012

DaBoyz GT is featuring a two-day, 120-player Warhammer 40,000 Grand Tournament and a two day 60-player Warhammer Fantasy Independent Tournament, both of which will be held on Saturday the 10th and Sunday the 11th.

Bring your best 40k, Warhammer Fantasy, game to compete at the DaBoyz independent Grand Tournament. You will find awesome terrain, prizes, and opponents!

Mark your calendars and start making your travel plans, because on November 9th -11th, the DaBoyz GT will return to the Rochester, New York area.

So check us out at:

I'm not a spokesman but I believe that the move back to the UofR campus this year means the hall will be in use Friday which is when the team event was last year.

Anyways, the UofR venue is very nice also with much better lighting. This year's venue was used 2 years ago and some pics of that tournament can be found here:
http://daboyzateam.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=daboyzgt&action=display&thread=2827

This has been said before, but this year's event has no comp score due to the new rules being less than 6 months old. All you guys that said "I would go, but comp..." have no excuse now!

Getting my broom incase there is shenanigans.

I am going to a GT on Veterans Day weekend but I do not know which one yet. Da Boyz is $200 less than the 11th Co, but I have been to Rochester already and have seen the sights, while I have never been to South Carolina.

Who has time to go sight seeing while participating in a GT? They will both probably be quite awesome. Flip a coin if you can't decide.

If I fly across the country I like to spend a few days seeing the sights. At the Nova Open I came in on a Tuesday and that let me visit DC for a couple of days before the tournament.

When I went to Da Boyz GT 2 years ago I was there for almost a week. I went to Niagara Falls, Palmyra NY and a few other places.

I guess you could visit Charleston and maybe Myrtle Beach (meh). There's not really at that much there unless you are a big fan of either the Clemson Tigers or USC Gamecocks. Just kidding... Kind of.

I am sure they have a lot of history there since it was around before the revolutionary war. Off the top of my head though besides Fort Sumter I can't come up with anything else to see.

Looks real good and wish the best for the tournament.

Question is will there be a FAQ for the tournament to cover some questions from the upcoming chaos book?

Also is Shawn going to be playing or will Marc have to ask nicely?

Jay, just signed up. Looking forward to catching up with you, Shaun, Chris, and Eric.

Last year's event was a blast and highly competitive. I expect nothing less this year. Jay, I believe the DaBoyz GT is also a qualifer for a Wild Card spot on Team America. Can you confirm this for everyone.

We are just over a month away, see you soon!
Best,
Paul

Considering attending this year as I finally have the time off for it and I've never been a fan of comp (though I'll defend your right to run the event as you see fit!), so this year would be ideal.

I'll second Paul's question about the ETC Wild Card qualifier, and add a couple of my own:

-Do you have a rough headcount/estimation of how many attendees you'll probably have this year? Just curious about what size of event it's going to be
-When can we expect to hear a bit about the types of missions/format of the event? Having never played at DaBoyz I'm not sure if it's win/loss, battle points, what kind of BP, types of missions, if missions are released ahead of time, etc.

The wild card tournaments are:

1. Fall 2012 DaBoyz GT, Rochester, NY.
2. Winter 2013 Bay Area Open, Antioch, CA.
3. Feast of Blades 2012

here are the missions

http://www.daboyzgt.com/40K/Missions.aspx

the other info like score breakdown can be found elsewhere on the main 40k page.

if you'r on the fence i strongly recommend giving it a go, its a great GT! although it will be different that usual since they are leaving comp out due to 6th ed. rules but i can still say it will be a blast and i personally cant wait.

its a cap of 120 people but you can say its safe to assume 80-90 but probably more although i dont know if it will sell out

Jay - New Chaos Dex allowed? Figure it'd be 30 days out since release.

I can't speak officially on the TO's behalf but I do believe the new codex will be legal at the tournament
