Hey guys, i'm toying around with a little Necron list that doesn't have a whole bunch of vehicles in it and is quite shooty, I've chosen models that I really like and would love to paint, it's not meant to be a highly competetive list, just something that will be interesting and fun to play against my mates Blood Angels
HQ:
Overlord with mindshackle scarabs, sempiternal weave, void blade, phase shifter, tesseract labrynth- 195
Troops:
Warriors x 10 - 130
Warriors x 10 - 130
Warriors x 10 - 130
Warriors x 10 - 130
Fast Attack:
Conoptek Wraiths x6 (4 whip coils) - 250
Conteptek Scarab swarm x 10 - 150
Destroyers x 3 - 120
Elites:
Triarch Praetorians x 10 (void blades & particle casters) - 400
Triarch Stalker - 150
Heavy:
Canoptek Spyder x 3 (1x gloom prism, 2x particle beamer) - 215
Total points: 2000

You know, if you traded 1.5 squads of warriors, you could have 10xImmortals with tesla as well.
I prefer the immortal models to the warrior ones, and in your list you'll have all three sizes then - warrior-immortal-praetorian.
Speaking of models, the Lychguard with Swords and Boards are awesome too. The invul save helps a lot against pw in CC

The Overlord really should have a warscythe, it's just too good not to have and gives better flexibility.
The rest of the army has little redundancy, just single units i.e Triarch Stalker.
You should also work on getting more anti tank, at the moment you just have gauss and the Triarch Stalker, well ranged anti tank at least.

I find that Triarch Stalkers in a pair work great.
Because You are skipping transports for your troops, you will need some way to get them across the board to an objective.
I suggest taking a cryptek with veil of darkness for this, It works great (if you are smart with your deepstrike placement)
And don't underestimate his weapon either, ap 1 is great, with S8 vs LD, you'll need 5s or 6s to hurt anyone, but imagine if that was twin-linked from the stalker!?!
Tesseract labryinth, unless your lucky, is not worth the points without a chronometron cryptek. Use that 30 pts elsewhere
10 praetorians? huge pts dump, not that hard to kill. My personal preference is to never use preatorians or lychguard, but maybe they work for you. I just caution spending so many points on one squad.

I second dropping the labyrinth,and switching the blade to a scythe on the overlord. Throw a particle caster into your wraith squad. 5 points for more wound allocation and a S6 pot shot. It would be dumb not to take. I would also drop a particle beamer off one of the spiders, for more allocation purposes. The extra blast will not be missed, as spiders are more about scarab farming and fighting in CC. If you dropped the scarabs off the overlord, as well as the labyrinth and beamer, you could get a lancetek with a pulse. A turn of night fighting can really protect you as you march up the board, preventing your wraiths and scarabs from getting shot up before they get to combat. A 3' S8 shot would also help with some anti tank ability.

The most important rule of 40K-Page XVII of the 6th edition rulebook, the figure at the top right of the page. "Shake hands with your opponent and thank them for a good battle and fun experience." Then go out for a beer.

Hey, thanks for the input guys! i'm still reading the codex as starting Necrons has been a snap decision due to obtaining a bunch of the models listed above for nothing :-) so I haven't been paying much attention until now!
So, from what i gather, the army isn't 'too' bad but the overlord needs work and I need some more anti tank? I thought I needed more tank guns. if I forego preatorians or Lychguard what should i take in their stead? I was planning on using them to tie up his elite troops?
to be honest i'm only taking the stalker because i needed something to shoot a tank or two! I personally don't look forward to painting it! any suggestions?
thanks again everyone! I'm going to lunch now and then I'll come back read my codex a bit and jump back on to see what we can work out :-)

Keeping with your theme of no vehicles, I'd suggest you need Crypteks, specifically Lanceteks (Harbringers of Destruction with Eldritch Lances) plus more scarabs for AT. Check out scarab farm lists for ideas.
So, I'd say drop 5 praetorians, swap the remaining 5 to Lychguard with Swords and Boards. Into the Lychguard goes the Overlord (swap labyrinth and void blade for war scythe - as a general rule if you can take a war scythe, take it) and add Cryptek (HoDespair with Veil of Darkness) for mobility.
Look at upgrading at least one squad of warriors to immortals.
Also, if you primarily want a foot list, start looking at the special characters. Specifically, you'd get mileage out of Anrakyr (who will upgrade Immortals to Eternals) plus the Zahndrek/Obyron combo.
In a foot list at this level, I think you need to be able to take 2 royal courts, so you can add 2 RC members per squad.
Good combos for this are :
a) VeilTek + Orb Lord (Lord with Orb, MSS, WS, SW?) added to Lychguard (note if you take Obyron, his Ghostwalk Mantle effectively gives you an extra veil so you can add a StormTek (HoStorm with Lightning) instead of the VeilTek)
b) Pairs of LanceTeks to warrior squads
c) VeilTek and StormTek (or OrbLord) to Immortals (particularly Tesla ones)

In all honesty you're best hanging on a few weeks until 6th ed comes out. You don't want to add loads of anti tank weapons and find out that tanks are useless and nobody takes them any more. Once 6th hits, and you've got a grasp of it, then come back and look at your list

Did some fiddling around and reading and i like this sort of list at the moment? and it gives me the option of perhaps changing one scythe to a night scythe as transport if it's needed? again i'm still learning but it feels fun?

i dislike preatorians. i think they are overpriced and its a huge chuck of points.
Do the destroyers have a place? if so, why not heavy? although it does make it 60 points for a short range lascannon. also overpriced.
Warriors arent that effective walking. although 40 is alot. but no immortals? :(
Doom scythes are very easy to kill
Adjustments;
Hq - same
troops;
10x immortals, tesla
10x immortals, tesla
10x warriors, ghost ark
10xwarriors, ghost ark
fast attack;
5x wraiths, 2xwhip coils
10x scarab swarm
heavy support;
3x spiders, 1 gloom, 2 particle beamer
doomsday ark
doomscythe
and nearly 100 points to play with.
