I play Imperial Guard- but with army men. Due to lack of money, and a job, (I'm not lazy or anything, jeese I'm young), I decided to design my Imperial Guard army around Army Men! Easily bought, easily modified with other toys/ 40k bits, my army is really coming together. I center around my leman russes and a good chunk of infantry, I have around 2500+ points, never counted it out. NOTE: Not fully painted or modeled, working on it every day.
This army was started around September 2011, when I joined 40k. Let me know what you guys think!

Well, considering that this is a painting and modelling thread with no pictures of painting or modelling, and no discussion about painting and modelling, I would start to wonder if this was placed in the wrong section.

That aside, using army men as stand-ins until you can afford a proper army is fine, but make sure all troops of various types are properly and consistently marked. If that were the case, I'd have no trouble playing against such an army.

That said, in a tournament situation, such an army would never fly.

Sorry about the late photos, I'm trying to get a LOT uploaded right now, running a bit behind. Posted in this thread to see people's opinions on my unique modeling and evaluating my paint job, not necessarily the usual, but it qualifies IMO! I consistently use the same model, I custom make weapons- like that flame thrower in #6. I apologize greatly that the quality is absolutely terrible on the camera, I'll try to retake some better ones.

Honestly, from what I can see, they don't look too good. But keep in mind that that's more because of the models being used over anything else. Harp as I and others may about GW, but they do make quality figures, and in comparison to cheap armymen, it really shows.

I'd suggest buying proper models piecemeal. Slowly build up, replacing your army men. Use that time to really practice and improve.

Yeah, they're a bad plastic that has random bits of plastic off it, and majorly I think it's because I haven't painted it yet. Once I get a set of about 20 guys in their banner squad (each sergeant in my army will have a banner with his squad color, think it will look decent) I'll have them fully painted and put on here again. Will update ASAP! Off to painting.

While I'm quite happy to use "army men " tanks and trucks, and scenery too,the soldiers are a bit big/tall, at 54mm, to look right against 28mm GW figures

hmmm I would say against maybe your buddy at your house yes you could use those.....But at a store or anything outside your house i'd say no. This is a hobby where you buy, build, paint and play with models. Does not have to be Games workshop(unless in one of their stores) I myself use Avatars of war and wargames factory. Which Wargames factory make a GREAT!!! product and at a great price. I started playing the game when I was 14 i'm 30 now. I worked weekends and summers to support my "hobby" at the time it was buy a blister or something once a month.

I'd suggest looking into Mantic models. They have a relatively cheap line for IG equivalents.

Where I live there are no game shops nearby- in the middle of the midwest. I play with a few friends, and this army is good enough for me until I'm further into highschool that I can get a good job to actually pay for models- this is just my way of introducing the 40k hobby.

Thanks for the great tips on other shops to use, I'll have to look into building my army from that and using this as a show army!

I don't use those army men, I use a less common kind that is about 10 mm taller than an ork boy, 1 3/4 inches with the base included on my guys, it doesn't look bad. I keep the 54 mm army men out of this

Wargames seems like amazing models for their price, what do others think of these, they seem like they'd make a great Guard. You guys think it would be all right to have this walk into a shop and fight against them as Imperial Guard?
