Well, how to paint them depends a lot on your colour scheme! What are you going for?

Might I suggest a sort of Lawrence of Arabia meets Cold War Desert Rats?

You see, to Auston, everyone is a Death Star; there's only one way you can take it and that's through a small gap at the back.

Tans, browns, and some whites or greens to break it up is probably the way to go.

On arrival in Al Jubail, shortly before Gulf War 1,the first people I met on the dock were 2 British Military Police, tastefully dressed in American night camo parkas, Saudi red & white shemaghs, Brit desert combat pants, and suede desert boots.....................plus obligatory "shades" to look even cooler ( they thought)...

Crimson,

For what it's worth, my Tallarn army's color scheme is basically a combination of yellows, purples and browns. Someone once told me that the yellow and the purple are opposites on the color wheel so they offer a nice contrast.

Note that the color names have changed:
liche purple is now now called xereus purple.
bleached bone is now called ushabti bone.
snakebite leather is now called balor brown.
scorched earth is now rhino hide.
bubonic brown is now called zamesi desert.
bestial brown is now called mournfang brown.
codex grey is now called dawnstone.
Griffon Sepia is now called Seraphim sepia.

Here is a detailed description of my paint scheme:
1.) Headgear, skulls, and sashes(Liche Purple)
basecoat with a liche purble and black blend (4:1 ratio)--this makes a nice deep purble
wash with black, highlight with liche purple
then highlight with a liche purple
and then highlight with a liche purple and bleached bone blend (4:1).
2.) Tunics, backbacks, and rifle casings (Snakebite Leather)
basecoat with snakebite leather
wash with scorched earth and water blend (1:6 ratio)
highlight bubonic brown
then highlight with a bubonic brown and bleached bone blend (3:1 ratio)
3.) Bases, belts, pouches (scorched earth)
Basecoat with scorched earth
wash with black and water blend (1:6 ratio)
then highlight with bestial brown
4.) Pants/puttees (codex grey)
Basecoat with codex grey
wash with black and water blend (1:6 ratio)
then highlight with a code grey and bleached bone blend (4:1)
5.) Heavy weapon casings (bubonic brown)
Basecoat with bubonic brown
Wash with griffon sepia
then highlight with a bubonic brown and bleached bone blend (3:1 ratio)
6.) Metal
I just paint metal (e.g. grenades, scimitars, knife hilts, barrels, etc) boltgun metal over black.

Note that if I had to do it over again I'd paint my bases up in bubonic rather than scorched earth. The scorched earth is a bit too dark and bubonic would go better with my bubonic-schemed tanks and sentinels.

Here are some pics of my color scheme:

Good luck deciding on a color scheme and enjoy using your Tallarns!
