Hello everyone on Dakka Dakka.

This will be a blog about the humble start of four gamers venturing in the underhive. We want to start a campaign in the near future, but to get to that point we will have to build/finish our scenery and warbands first. Our progress will be posted under the collective name of A Cookbook in this thread.

The campaign will be played with the following warbands, Enforcers, Goliath, Escher and Spyrers.

Since the campaign will be set in 3 main parts of our hive we want to focus on making scenery for these parts first. The 3 parts are a industrial part, a Underhive part and the entrance to the spire's tippytop where all the rich people live. Also a precinct building will be build for the enforcers.

Enough blabla on to some pictures. The first 2 buildings for the Underhive part.

Great start to your terrain collection there. The colours are really nice. so much better then drab grey that's dry brushed. The yellow and red red(orange?!) really bring it to life and make it stand out as not your ordinary hive. Also the slightly darker shade of grey in the inside of the structure works really well. posters are good as well!

Look forward to seeing the gangs and the rest of your board!

@ Zwan1One - We opted to put in some colors to break the large grey blocks, and they seem to work...atleast for us

Finished the 3rd building.

Looking cool, I like the little posters. The giant walls will make for some good games, blocking lines of sight and creating corridors.

Do you plan to have a few ladders and maybe some scattered crates around as well?

I think you should use a finer sand to add texture to metal areas, corrosion on metal would probably be a finer texture than the big grits in the stone walls.

@ Bruticus... Yes we will have ladders and some removable walkways. Also some piles of crates, oil drums and whatnots. But they will all be removable so we can use them with the other terrain that will be build.

As for the big grits on the metal...i know, i used the wrong paint and when i saw it it was too late to remove...a well

Really fantastic terrain! Love all the posters and the detail in the paintwork - it's all really unique and characterful! Are you using a texture spray to get that effect on the walls? It looks really good!
You should post your gangs too! I'd love a close up of your scaling mini too if you have one

@ Scarper - I am glad you like the terrain The walls are painted with a mix of cheap acryllic kid paints, different grain sizes of sand and woodglue. The colors are all GW paints.

The gangs are currently being assembled and will be shown pretty soon. As for the scaling mini, he is an old model we used as objective in some 40K games...he's Mr Objective guy...i think he's glad with his new job, instead of being pursued and shot at

It's a cadian with (iirc) high elf legs and WHFB empire mob arms and head, with a box containing usefull information...atleast usefull enough to be a objective. Here he is...

More great stuff. Still loving the colours. Are you doing any rubble/litter/crates to fill up the streets and alleys?

@ Zwan1One - Yes, rubble/litter/crates are being constructed atm, we want cover and LoS breakers...and mess the place up a bit, a clean underhive just doesn't look right

Here is the leader of the spyrer gang, the orrus Korax von Griffendahl...son of Lord Hieronimus von Griffendahl, ruler of hive Sephora.

He's big, he's OTT...just the way i like it . Need to add some cables and remove that pimple on his butt.

He is a really cool and dynamic model with some great details. I really like the fists, what bits are they made from? I think the rest of him looks a bit too easily recognisable as a terminator, is there any way you can disguise a couple of the more obvious parts? I'd say the legs and the hood around the head are very recognisable.

Spyrer suits are rumoured to be Tau technology, if I was putting together a gang I would look to the tau range for bits I think, to try and disguise the imperial tech a bit. Another thing is that Spyrers are meant to be youths and your guy looks quite old and veteran - like a Patriarch. I like how when Spyrers bite off more than they can chew a grown up comes down to bail them out, really shows how they are just spoilt brats.

I agree 100% with you on this. The model i made was more of a intoxicated spur of the moment bitboxraid attempt, he will be demoted to statue .
About picking something from the tau range...hmmm...personally there is nothing i like from the tau range, but the orrus model will be redone.

Take care.

Instead of statue, how about using him as the patriarch? Give him a few mechandrites and you are good to go. He's got the look of a disapproving father, plus all manner of ornate wargear. The fists are perfect for an Orrus though, hard to say.

This thread has my all time favourite Spyrers in (and favourite pitslaves too, the guy is a genius). He seems to use more Eldar parts than Tau, but I do like the idea of using some Tau bits. There is some cool fluff about how all the spyrer names (like Malcador, Orrus, etc) are mangled versions of Tau words.

It's going to be a great looking battle field. How are the ladders coming along?
