First, let me just say sorry if this has been asked and beaten to death before this post. In the BA codex a regular Land Raider can transport 10 models, however, in C:SM it says they can transport twelve models. Is this an error in one of the codex's or do Blood Angels simply get the shaft with their land raider capacity, and if so why?

Thanks in advance

You read it correct. Depends on the codex. And the answer is because racecar.

Which land raider? Redeemers and crusaders have larger capacities.

It is not an error. You use the transport capacity listed in your codex with any updates listed in the appropriate FAQ (of which there are none).

The Ba and sw codex have capacity 10, C:sm is 12.
That's life, nobody is sure but unless there is an eratta i haven't seen then it's just a tough luck situation.

Well thats just depressing. 5 hammer termies with a priest isn't quite as fearsome rolling out of a Land Raider Redeemer :(

Thanks for the answers!

It's for the shock absorbing harnesses since the BA one can deep strike.

I thought they used the extra space for stills.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

It's not an error. I've played with lots of BA armies in the past and they have told me they take 10.

As far as I know no one is getting "the shaft". The transport capacity is ten. The C:SM is the only book where it was upped to twelve, and that probably has to do with their silly minimums for special weapons making 11 man squads (attached SC and melta/ML etc) very common.

Not to derail too much into Tactics but...

You can have 7 hammernators and a priest coming out of the Crusader(which can move 6" and fire every gun on the dang thing, unless you also bought a H/K missile).

I'm just sayin' is all.

Not to derail this further, but my horde of guardsmen beg to differ. Its entirely situational which has more killing power.

Phobos pattern raiders also have the schizo thing going on, long range fire and dropping close combat squads into the heart of the fight.

2 dead models before you assault isn't much and if you are moving the 6 inches to fire those lazcannons, you would have gotten all the shots with the crusader even a pintle mounted multi-melta.

So if BA use the extra room for shock absorbers, and the SW use the extra room for kegs, how do you explain what those straight laced Ultramarines use the extra room for? A monument to Roboute Guilliman?

EDIT: O derp, totally misread the start of this thread.

2 more models.

Have you been paying attention?

Vanilla SM Codex(ultras, et al that are not a dark/blood angel, Black templar, Space Wolf, Chaos, or Grey knight) have 12 seats in their Land raiders.

On a side note Black Templar keep their rage and hate in the two extra seats apparently.

For Chaos Marines it really depends on the faction as to what's in place of those two seats. Berzerkers pile up taken skulls there, BL leaves them empty to honor Horus, Slaaneshi cults keep their drug/stim kettles, oh and Grand Father provides his children with violin playing plague toads because he cares.

No the two extra seats are to help represent the efficiency of following the Codex Astartes. No giving the shaft, just showing off.

The Codex Astartes names this maneuver...
...the Sardine.

"And thou shalt lay upon thine brother, and fold thine arms around him. This shalt be done so that others may then lay atop thee, and thusly they will be packed, like the Legendary Sardines of yore on Holy Terra. It is in this manner that additional men may be placed inside the Holy Land Raider, and the Land Raider will forever be remembered as His Most Holy Standard-Template Sardine Can On Treads.

So it was written, so it shall be done."

The Vanilla SM Codex Drop Pods also have 2 extra seats, which is fun if you like explaining how you fit Terminator-Armor-clad Lysander in with 10 Sternguard.
