So I got 2 of these badboys for my very much WIP Necron army. Now they have sat in the same place for a good few months with no issues. Sadly one of them took a tumble when I moved it causing it to shatter into the 4 bits it was made of, top, 2 sides and the base.

Now I have only just realised that the central pillar is infact too short to connect the top and bottom pieces together. This is meant to be or have i seriously goofed up??

Also this kit was a pain in the to put together even so minimally.

it comes without an instruction sheet, but there are some instructions on the back of the box...
never heard that the support pillar wasnt long enough though

Nope, both of these have instruction sheets. Im pretty sure that its the only place it can go.

Anyway Iv got 1 almost fully built after spending a fair bit of time trying to lol, oddly enough without the central support.

The Monolith is a hell of a model to put together.

Got to get all the sides even when you glue it together.

The secret is to put rubber bands around it to hold it in place and ensure that it all lines up.

I've built three of them now and it is a difficult model to get right

Yea so far it looks fine other than the massive gap between one of the sides and the base. All the sides seem to be fine so hopefully "squashing" it to contact the base wont cause too much trouble.

You're definitely not alone! The two I made had the exact same problem... I had a rubber cork that I cut about 1/4" off of and used that as a spacer to fill the gap. Anyways, just throw something in there to fill the gap and you should be good. I used plastic glue on both my mono's and they're bulletproof now (dropped a few times already).

Alright, least im not alone. Atm I am very unsure about moving them, heck I don't even want to think about taking them to a game just incase they decided to collapse during transport. Tbh the fact they were originally held together with superglue probably didn't help. Only used superglue as the GW plastic thick glue wasn't working too well.

Mine was too short as well (and the crystal was badly malformed). I just packed the gap under the column with sprue offcuts. The 'lith is not a well moulded kit.

I used leftover sprue to fill the gap - very difficult model to put together!

My mono was a pain in the ass. Used the rubber band method to keep everything together. I Took out the center pillar because of two reasons. 1. It did nothing for the model. 2. I needed the room to put the electronics in the damn thing to light it up.

Never forget to paint the turrets before assembly if you want them movable. You never reach all places after assembly.

Yea I gave them a basic coat of boltgun. Sadly now that it is together i now need to spray the remaining panels >.< Guess i shall need to find something to cover them with.

Use painters tape for that painting.

You can also use painters tape (the blue tape, from the hardware store) instead of rubberbands to put it together.

i suggest greenstuff to fill up the space between the pillar and the base... it will give you more support then cork and sprue cut offs... once the gs is cured, you can also run a pin into the monolith's pillar for additional suport
