As these a necessity with Finecast models or can you manage just fine with a good pair of clippers, a knife and a file?

You are better off sticking to what you know rather than spending a gazzillion dollars on what is essentially a toothbrush and metal scraper.
You will be fine with what you have (and if you have a toothbrush to brush off the loose bits it will be perfectly adequate... not that you really need it).

I wouldn't file resin models like finecast or forgeworld at all, you will have really evident file marks, as the resin is just too soft.
Best idea is some kind of wet dry sand paper that is a really fine grit.
Finecast you can pretty much scrap the model lines off with your fingernail, just use the back of your hobby blade and you will be fine.

Hobbyknife toothbrush. Don't bother with the special tools, waste of cash

Why is it that only those who have never fought in a battle are so eager to be in one? |

I have the mold line scraper and it's really just a sharp 90 degree angle (eg, the corner of a " L "). It just so happen that you can get the same thing with the back of some hobby knife blades.
While I still like the GW tool better, a hobby knife will work just fine. It's a lot easier then using a file.

A hobby knife and a reckless disregard for the safety of one's thumbs is all any hobbyist needs.
