Hey everyone,
I've only been in the hobby now for 9 months and i take very good care for all my tools and pot's of paints but I'm finding one issue constantly, my GW washes drying up or turning a very transparent white, i do my best to try and fix this or work around it but alas they are gone for good it would seem when this happens, i need either a satisfactory fix or some information on where i can buy something similar, I'd really appreciate if they can come under GW cost too $6 a paint is a bit too pricey to be replacing on a regular basis :S
I live in Melbourne, Australia and am quite happy to travel a few kilometers around to get them, I'd also prefer not to be buying these online and having them shipped.
So thanks to any responses that come this way
p.s. almost forgot, GW paints are acrylic right?!

GW are acrylic yeah, odd that you say your washes turning white. Never head of that. Are you storing them in direct sunlight? I should imagine you get loads of sun in Australia and leaving you paints in the sun would maybe explain drying out and colour fade. Army painter dark and strong tone inks and decent alternatives to GW.
Regards
Ian

no they are stored in a cupboard with no light and little temperature fluxtuation. they dont even get sun when they are out, only the models. thanks for your assitance.
this will continue to elude me.

Happens to my washes: the pigment separates from the binder or something. usually I just give them a good shake and they're good to go.

You are probably better off keeping them in daylight (not direct sunlight though)... my Devlan Mud has taken on a rather foul odour like stagnant water and I would imagine that tucking it away in a darkened cupboard would provide the perfect environment for mould/mildew to grow.

1.) In my personal experience, washes are the least likely to dry out, still have some very old ones functioning.
2.) Devlan Mud ALWAYS smells bad even when fresh

I personaly think the GW pots are designed to not last.
Always shake all your paints, and dont leave the pot open for too long. Clean the rim of the lid now and again. This should help make them last longer.

Amen to that, it smells awful. The new Agrax Earthshade doesn't share the bad smell of it's counterpart though.

GW informed me that it just happens to some of the old batches, if it happens withing a couple months they will replace them otherwise i just have to cop the cost of a new one.
My local manager informed me that the new ones however do not have this issue and should be fine.
Bought the new one....let's hope all goes well.
Cheers for all the responses.
