Hey folks, have problems with black paint - mainly chaos black.
Seeing how this is mosdtly core paint of the armor, I find it issue. I washed the model with water, gave 2 to 3 coats of chaos black and still it rubs off If I'm not too careful what gives?
Does the newer black paint have this problem?

Did you prime the model?
If not then there is your problem mate.
Chaos black from the pot (or any modeling paint really) will not adhere to plastic well without first priming the plastic.
The good news is that you should easyily be able to wash off the paint you have on the models now with soap and water.
Once you do that simply prime with a suitable primer.
You could use GW's primer but it's super expensive. A better bet is to get a flat (not glossy) spray paint. People say good things about the Krylon brand, but I find that cheap walmart spray paint works just as well.

Blast, I just assumed Chaos black would be primer hence because of the spray.. *sigh*
I need alternative options, almost all my guys are chaos blacked, not to mention side bolters. Maybe some protective spray?

The spray is supposed to be a primer. So, yep, varnish them. I've used thinned down chaos black from a pot as a primer for a couple of years with good results, and the new imperial primer seems to be pretty similar, though it goes on thinner with better coverage and less pooling. There's a LOT of posts on this forum about how to finish your models, including what to not do, which seems to be the most important if you're using sprays. I just use brush on varnish when I really care. Also, maybe look into a better way of transporting your models?

? Its just ofr displaying purposes, but all of them have been magnetized which could cause issue with paint tearing off.
What if I spray chaos black primer over painf? I'll look around for varnish spray too

That might end up being too thick and obscure detail.
I don’t know man, I’ve never used the GW spray paint. If it’s just for display purposes then you might be able to get away with doing nothing, and just being really careful while painting.
Was it really humid outside when you spray painted them? Humidity does wacky gak to spray paint.

Just realised my last post had typing errors o.O cause I'm typing on phone.
Could've been bit hot outside, it is almost summer here but I paint at random times. The paint only fades if I lightly drag a nail over it, most notably about edges.
I'll look at painting store for acrylic varnish in a pot and brush it on. It's supposed to give protection, not sure if one layer is enough tho

What you need to do is seal the paint in with a hard coating. Varnish or a clear coat (glossy) should do the trick then spraw/brush on some dullcoat to get rid of the shine. A product called "Future Floor Wax" (google it) is very good as well.
I say glossy because the way a dullcoat works it's not nearly as tough as a gloss coat.
Note I have never actually tired this before.

That's not entirely true. Gloss and matte finishes are really only based upon the surface that the varnish leaves on the model, the bonding properties do differ but not significantly enough to warrant one being "tougher" than the other.
If you are having paint come away, biggest thing as previously mentioned is prime them, but you also should give every model you get a quick scrub in some detergent as mould release agents can often be on the pieces and make the paint not adhere.

yeah there are some great brush on primers if you dont like spay cans, but spraying a grey or black primer over a clean model should do the trick.
be sure to remove all the paint before priming! or you will still have the same problem!

In my opinion strip off the existing paint, and buy a can of off brand spray primer, I use board to pieces with equally good results as the gw spray...
