After recently buying a mint condition 1st edition ork codex for £7 I spent the evening flicking through it's pages.
I found Zodgrod Wortsnagga the runtherder that made super grots and snotlings.

I was wondering, is he still alive? Or could I say he's dead so I can have a decendant. Thanks.

Also what happened to Ogryn and Ork relations?

As with all named charters in the codexes, you can rename them if you want to represent different characters that share the same abilities.

I know, but he's not in the current editions. I was wondering if he's still alive or if he was killed off.

Zogrod is just one of several Ork special characters who GW has just dropped to the wayside over the years, with no explanation whatsoever.

That's a good questions about the Ogryns, tho. I suppose they wanted to make Orks a greenskin-only codex. I'm not up on my Imperial Guard fluff, tho, so maybe there's a reason why Ogryns don't consort with other races anymore

Ogryns used to be 40ks version of ogres (this and you could take allies to a certain % back then) but never an actualy army in there own right, id imagine modern orks would respect ogyns strength and single mided ability for violence... worthy traits to an ork

Then why did they fall out?
Was Zogrod in 2nd edition? Was there a footnote or bit of fluff about his disapperance?

It's not like he really disappeared story-wise. The character still exists at some location and time in the 40k galaxy. GW just drops characters sometimes to make room for new ones in the codex. So you can use him as named, or modify his rules to work in 5th Ed and call him something else. Whatever you like.

Ogryns weren't green enough, so they went their separate ways.

Likes been said, he hasn't been dropped, he just isn't in the Codex anymore. So inline with his fluff, he's probably roaming orkdom offering his services or could be keeping a low profile after a Warboss didn't agree with his ways of making Super Runts.

It's no different from Nazdreg Ug Urdgrub, the Bad Moons warboss who was a special character in the 2nd and 3rd edition codices and not featured in the 5th edition one. They just like to shake things up a bit from edition to edition with no in-story explanation given. The characters are probably just fine in the fluff, they just don't have rules to represent them presently.

So far as I know (and that's pretty far, insofar as Orks are concerned) Zogrod Wortsnagga was never killed in any official publication. That doesn't necessarily mean that he's still tooling around, as Orks aren't particularly peaceful, and don't generally publish obituaries, either.

I suspect that he was dropped because Grots have settled into a niche of cheap, weak, expendable troops, and 'supa-grots' just doesn't fit with the intended game-play any longer. I'm not too sad about it, because I didn't like the idea of grots being trained to be 'stronger' anyway. I'd love to see him make a comeback, but I'd really like to see him able to train his runts to do specific behaviors, so his mob of grots could have things like Infiltrate, Stealth, Move through Cover, Preferred Enemy, etc. This would be a cool little perk, and a lot more plausible than training Grots until they were almost Ork-sized.

Plus, that Ork had an Epic Hair-Squig 'Do.

Ogryns are now a variant of Human, rather than a separate race entirely, and are possessed of a fierce, if simple, faith in the God-Emperor.

Being that they are ab-humans, rather than Xenos, the Ogryn are now found in IG regiments, rather than as a "mercenary force" to be attached to Greenskin armies or what-have-you.

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.

His hair was so wild! I mainly just wanted a decendant for the simple purpose of "regimented" grots, using the drillboss stormboy model of old.

Intresting, since orks don't have a faith in the "god emperor" they left the orks? Or did the orks shun them?

The thing is, the Codex books have gotten slimmer because it saves production costs while they charge you the same amount or more for less product.

Writing up rules and printing pages for the endless supply of Ork characters who have appeared over the years would take up space and cost money. So they streamline things, and the models just become really cool generic character models instead of Special Characters.

Was he dropped? I guess. But it is more accurate to say that they just didn't bother updating his rules for the more recent editions.

Marneus Calgar is referred to as "one of the Imperium's greatest tacticians" and he treats the Codex like it's the War Bible. If the Codex is garbage, then how bad is everyone else?
