Alright so basically i have been following, collecting, planning and painting 40k for over a year now, but finally my friend ethan has started showing some intrigue in it, as you can probably guess i am ecstatic, he is building his space marines from AOBR and is going to face off against my orks on saturday. I am going to use the 500(ish) points from AOBR but was wondering, next week we are going to have a 750 point game, what units shall I take then?
If you dont know, AOBR contains

20 ork boyz (2 big shootas) 180 points
5 nobz (5 big choppas) 125
3 deffkoptas (rokkit launchers) i think (though im not sure) is 120 points
warboss (power klaw, twinlinked shoota) 90-100 points, depends.

so what do you guys think? Thanks in advance guys! (and girls)

At 750, I would think something like

Warboss with klaw, TL shoota, attack squig, cybork and maybe eavy armor and bosspole(to go with one boy squad)

2 squads of 10 boys, each with a big shoota, one with a nob with a bosspole and a power klaw if you can proxy.

3 koptas with TL rokkits. If you can give them each a buzzsaw and run them as three separate squads.

Always take nob w/ PK and bosspole with your boys

Thanks, btw the warboss doesn't have a squig, I believe that's a WYSIWYG thing. Also you forget the excess nibs, and jcress thanks, I have a non on both squads, then a small squad of three for handling the dreaded dreadnought, what do you think?

First off, are you and your friend overly fussed on WYSIWYG otherwise it doesn't really matter if you have attack squigs and what nots.
Nob with both boyz squads is a good idea. I tend to count AOBR boyz as having big choppas because they are kinda big.
Deffkopta's and dreadnought are the the classic matchup in black reach, so you should be good there.
If you add more units in later, and I mean games later I would take more boyz and a mek with KFF.

Ahh The KFF, I hear there is a lot of debate on this. But I'll pick up a model anyway, you know, to experiment with.

I find they work great and most people games-workshop staff have suggested them to me, so I'd say their good.
I suppose it does depend on your playstyle though.

General lack of firepower of orks I assume is why you need some shoota boyz.

I don't think there is really anything to debate with a KFF, even if the rumors are true that it will drop to 5+ for everything.
The truth is OP, that Orks hardly EVER get to take their 6+ armor save due to the massive amount of AP5 or lower shooting in the game. You get hit, and if your toughness doesn't do the trick, then you just remove handfulls of boyz.
Until you have some trukks or wagons, (and even then) a KFF is all that stands between you and death on a wound. Terrain aside.

yeah, I just played a game and my boyz got whittled pretty quickly by bolter fire...
