Hi
I did a search for this and couldn’t find anyone else asking this so I’m 90% it’s a stupid question that is easy to answer but I like to be 99% sure so I am asking you lot for just clarification.
When you fire a Deathstrike missile you need to place a point rather than the Blast pie for determining scatter and blast radius. My question is what we do since there is no inner-circle like the pie dish has. The Deathstrike rules just says something like place a point and resolve scatter like normal, which is all well and good but from what I know about blasts is the inner circle of the blast disc needs to be 100% over the models base/hull before you roll the scatter, but does the Deathstrike need to follow this rule even though it uses no template?
I assume so because it still has the blast rule under its weapon profile yet on the other hand the blast rule says you place the disc so that inner hole covers the base, which the deathstrike doesn’t have.
So long question short:
Can Deathstrike be placed anywhere on the map and blast is worked from that?
or
Does Deathstrike need to be placed like a conventional blast? (Over a models base/hull).
I assume it’s the second otherwise you can launch the Deathstrike in the gaps between models in assault.

You still have to actually target an enemy unit with it, so the normal rules for Ordnance Barrage weapons applies. As such, you have to cover as much of the enemy with the blast marker as possible.

2 Bits:
A: what you know about blast markers, is not what the rules for blast makers say. Never does it say the center hole must be 100% on the model, you simply need the hole over the base, that could include just the edge of the hole.
2: the point needs to be on your target. If your target is a single model, that would be anywhere on that single model. If your target is a unit, that would be anywhere on any model in the unit.
Bonus: the lack of a center hole means nothing for armour penetration rolls: the whole blast radius is full strength.

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.

Yeah thought that an actual target would be required still since indirect fire hasn't been a pecedent in the rules.
Covering as many though, since its a random blast do I have to fire into the most dense pack of the mob or the centre of the vehicle .etc
Edit: Ah I didn't know that the hole doesnt have to be fully over the model, that is very helpful. Can snag a few more hits with my blasts now heh. Thanks for that I just assumed it meant a complete coverage was needed of the model but thats only for the normal blasts with regard to armour pen isn't it (if whole circle is over hull than the hit is max strength).

To maximise your strike then those are the targets to choose but you can put them anywhere on the unit or vehicle afaik.

You've confused templates with markers I'm pretty sure. There's no requirement to do that (even though it's normally a good idea).
