There seems to be a trend with CB making boxed sets like the new Shaolin coming out. I'm wondering if this is a good thing or not. For me it's a bad because I can't afford that many figs at once. I can only really buy one boxed set a year, if that. If they were two blisters of two then I may have a better chance of getting them. Yes I want them all but I don't want them all at once. One of the whole reasons I got into the game was the affordability. But if they keep putting things in boxes I won't be able to keep up at all.

True but it's kind of a pain and then you have to pay shipping etc.

The move is to reduce the blister range thus making the line more appealing to distributers because at present its very hard to know what to keep in stock (as per our LGS statement on the matter anyways) it makes sense to bring out support packs.

Personally i'm in favour of them, as long as they are intelligent choices i.e. ALEPH getting more than one Netrod in a pack!

I enjoy the boxes.

For one, the individual models are cheaper per model when bundled. The average model is about $10 MSRP, but the boxed sets of four models are around $35.
You can't accuse CB of money-grubbing when the models are individually cheaper this way. You spend more up-front, but you get more bang-for-your-buck (so they say).

Secondly, I enjoy the multi-part madness that the boxed sets hold. Boxed sets generally have the contents in a huge mess of parts that are a blast to build.

Finally, the boxed sets are easier for distributors/retailers which will make Infinity more mainstream and available without sacrificing quality in any way. This will make the game available to more people and that's more opponents for me!

It might be good for distributors but it's not good for me as a consumer if i can't afford to buy it.

Yes they are cheaper in bulk like that but if I still can't get it, it wouldn't matter.

I'm a bit split on these. On the one hand, they're great personally for linkable troops. On the other hand, you pay for them in a bigger one time drop. But it's cheaper than my other toy soldier addiction, so I'd still get them. Just not as frequently, but the raw volume of figs purchased over time will probably stay the same.

In general I like the boxes, often I will want more than one of a particular miniature and the boxes offer 4 fairly unique designs.

On top of it you're getting a deal.
Individual minis are normally 7,75 € each but in a box of 4 you're only paying 24,00 €. A savings of 7,00 € nearly an entire miniature for free.

If it keeps CB in business, I'm all for it. As customers we get more minis, and it also helps with store owners. Imagine ordering the whole range of Infinity: there's just too many products!

Personally I like boxed sets. It gives you more models for your buck and you end up with more choices which is always good. But at the same time I can see why it would be annoying with the price. I'd like to see blisters of everything too aaltough like someone has said you can find places that split the boxes up.

Thanks to mr Skyfury for the plug

Yes, I can indeed split up boxes so people get just the one model, but I do understand CDK's concern for postage - the recent increase in charges by the Royal Mail is quite a pain for international customers :/
That said, I do charge a flat rate regardless of how many split box models are ordered...

I usually head to my local store, Gamer's Armory in Cary and ask them to order stuff for me; any store with a nice enough owner and access to Alliance Games Distributors or Warpath Distributors can do this. They do in-store discounts which amounts to 19% off.
I'm pretty much the only person that frequents the store that plays Infinity though; trying to infect others.

Other than that, SciFi Genre in Durham has a respectably large stock of Infinity on shelves and the occasional tournament. It's a great place for impulse buys, and I know much of the staff that works there from going to college with them. SciFi Genre stocks tons of blisters and many boxes, and they even have the templates/counters/Bases from MicroArtStudio that they made especially for Infinity. They also run an online store that you can order Infinity stuff at 20% off and pick it up in-store for no shipping fee.

There's also a place in Knightsdale called The Game Connection that holds occasional tournaments, I don't know about their stock, because it's just too far away.

I like them because it means every (or close to) option they can bring.

However, something I don't like commenting on (since I haven't bought a box and I'm not sure), but feel the need to bring up, is if you want multiples of the same weapon. From my understanding, for example, the Odalisque box has 2 pairs of different bodies, 4 unique heads, and one of each weapon set arms.

If I want say, 2 Odalisques with assault rifles, I need to buy the entire box twice. While it's nice that I'll have less clones due to being able to put the second assault rifle on a different body with a different head, it's still a bit much when I'll need to buy 2 or 3 entire boxes if all I want is 2 or 3 with assault rifles.

So it's good and bad for me. They make it better by getting all of their options in one handy box, but make it more expensive if I want a second weapon of one type by forcing me to buy the entire box again.

Loki, you have a rather valid point.

The Myrmidon box and the Haramaki box also comes with only one model with a Combi Rifle and wanting to take more than one requires more than one box.
Meanwhile the Myrmidons and Odalisques have a separate single blister with a model with a Spitfire. Unique pose, but it's unlikely you'll ever need more than one with a Spitfire. Haramaki have the same thing with the ML.

It'd be nice if the special/heavy weapon were part of the box-of-four where the more common/typical weapons were individual blisters.
Then again, the dynamicism of each individual model in Infinity makes clones stand out tremendously.

EDIT: I did notice that the Loup box comes with two uniquely-posable models with the 'typical' armament of Viral Rifles with a separate blister available with the Sniper Rifle 'heavy weapon'. We need more of this.
The Magister Knights box got it right. Buy one box and you get Two 'typical' CCW Knights, one Heavy Weapon ML Knight, and one Shotgun Knight. Meanwhile there is the starter-set unique CCW Knight that will likely become available sometime in the future. All your variants are there!

That being said, the possibility of some of these models being available in individual blisters is a possibility. Perhaps a low-stock special order from CB?

You could always just utilize the Shae Konnit facility.

At least with Odalisques they're all 'normal' guns. Buying 2 boxes lets you make 2 relatively unique assault rifle, shotgun, contender and machine pistol models.

But yeah, it still get pricey. As they are, the boxes are great value and a good way to both reduce the amount of SKUs for stores and get as many options for the unit out as possible. You lose the flexibility though.

Boxed Set. my two cents.

Are CB making boxed set becuse is more profitable? I don´t think so. Nothing is more profitable than a single blister miniature. They can sell you a revenredn Moira with Multi rifle before any other option is available, and then release the HMG version again in a single blister and then release the Sniper option and keep on doing this selling their stuff at 7,75€. That is profit.

Why are they releasing boxes then? because they can cover all weapon options of all the troops with one box release. They are still greedy when they are still releasing the most attractive weapon option as a separate blister. But many people would like to have 2 Loup Garous with sniper rifle in their fireteam, so... this is CB being greedy way behind the greed of you know who.

I can even imagine that the whole point of the fireteams was designed to sell this boxes. Also, it seems to me that more people are playing this game now because... if troops were not released like this, who will play with them?

The old release schedule for CB was like:

Single miniature blister with basic weapons........................... wait like 6 months or even a year........................ new blister with the HMG or the SNiper rifle

Now it is like:

Boxed set of 4 miniatures covering all weapon optiosn except spitfire.................................... wait sometimes just wait till next month.............................. single blister with the spitfire option is released.

I'm not a painter, I consider myself a player, I'm still seduced by aesthetics so when the Druze Shock team was released I couldn't resist to buy that box, now I need the Druze with Spitfire miniature, it will probably will come out soon. This wouldn't happpen if CB did release all these Druze guys as single blisters.

I think it's bad, because sometimes you only want one. For example the Shaolin. I'm interested in them but only in owning one really for some smoke antics. Not an entire box of them.

Boxed sets contributed to me no longer playing 40k as well. Hell, I'd love to play my eldar in Infinity but I only want one Dire 2 Avengers not 10!

I agree with Loki, I like boxed sets, but I think they should include more options, repeating the basics.

@BobaFett: hey, there are many options not included in the boxes. Not only spitfires, but HMGs, sniper rifles, medics, hackers... I think the Posthumans is the only exception.

One of my very few complaints with Infinity is the lack of bits. I've still got 40k bits all over the place but no Infinity. Unless I want some guys with no arms.

Agreed!

I just wish they'd release faction specific weapon packs as blisters...

I'm guessing it'll come in time. They're a new game after all and we they've been churning out models like crazy. I'd even welcome plastic bits (but keep the models in metal, please!) in the future, although I would rather have their frequent releases than bits, actually.

From memory, the recent box set releases have:

Magisters - includes all weapon options.
Odalisques - includes all weapon options except Spitfire.
Druze - all weapon options except Spitfire.
Haramaki - all except ML.
Loup Garou - all except SR.
Yaogats - all except MSR.
Morlocks - a bit hard to judge, give that most of them don't carry a main gun.

The units released as box sets generally don't have HMG/medic/hacker options.

Fair enough. And those options are available in blister. But still there are not repetitions. And given their trend on boxes, if they release the standard LI units like this (Ghulams, Line Kazaks, Fusiliers and the like)... will their include more options? I think they won't. I'd like it though. Anyway that would be much easier in plastic, and CB has stated that they are not interested in plastic. On the other hand, faction specific weapon blisters would be a perfect match.

I'd be very surprised if we see box sets of Line Infantry, it would clash too much with the starter packs.

Yes, they include non-standard LI in the sectorial starters. But they have still less options.

And CB has stated that they are not intersted in doing weapon blister either. At the end of the day CB is a buisness and they need to look at the bottom line, despite how much they support there player base. It is more profitable to sell us whole models then weapons to convert are own. Even more so when you can get only get the special weapons in single or double packs.
