Grim Rune Priest in the Eye of the Storm

I just got 80 new models for a Guard Unit and want to do them without burning through 3 cans of primer.
I them though about “Dipping”.
I keep seeing people talking about “Dipping”.
I have searched and found not tutorials about it.
Could anyone give me more information?

Dipping is used for shades and varnish as an alternative to washes.
I've never heard of doing it with primer, I doubt it could be done as it would leave a very thick coat of paint.

You'll want to check out Army Painter. They've created an entire line around this technique. They also have tutorials and such on their site.
You can do it much less expensively using your typical Home Depot supplies, from what I understand. I've never done it myself, but washing everything in Dark Brown, such as GW Agrax Earthshade (IIRC) gives a very similar effect.

Hi !
I suggest you to read this topic : http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/452732.page#4352192
You might find some information in it. It's probably not the best topic about dipping, but it's a recent one that I remember because I posted in it. ^^

3 whole cans of primer? That sounds like a lot for 80 models.
I use matte black Krylon for primer. Works well. Applies easily and is thin enough not to obscure any details even with a few spray passes over the model. Costs $4 a can. 1 can will, I estimate, easily do 80 models.

I've Dipped all my imperial guard infantry which worked out quite well, Pretty much as good as I would get hand painting 80 minis. Ill get you a pic soon, I'm uploading them all to a P&M Blog today.
# EDIT:
Here are the images.
If you wanted to do this its quite simple. I painted mine after assembly but in hindsight I think it would have been much quicker to paint them on the sprue then assemble and dip.
1. Pick the army painter primer you would like the cloth on them to be and spray them all with it a nice coat of it. (Mine was Vallejo Air Light Brown, but army painter do a range of sprays that would be great for the job if you don't have an airbrush).
2. Paint the skin the fleshtone you want to use. (I used dwarf flesh)
3. Paint the armour carapace and guns with the colour you want it to be. (I used Catachan Green)
4. Paint the metal bits on the guns with the metallic of your choice. (I used Chainmail).
5. Get your pot of army painter Dark Shade (there are other floor varnishes you can use for cheaper but I just splashed out on the real deal) and a stick with a nice thick end that's roughly the size of a small base, put a decent size blob of blu tack on the end of it.
6. Shake the pot of Dark Shade well and open it up somewhere out doors, Stick a guardsmen on the end of your blu tack firmly, submerge him into the dip until it comes right up to the rim of the base then pull him out of the dip and give it a bit of a tap on the edge of container so excess runs off him back into the pot. Then take the stick and spin it in your hands quite hard (make sure its not on face level or the excess with go on your face and its quite hard to get off once it drys). I spun mine for about 5 seconds each.
7. Leave the minis for a good 24 hours then paint the base so you cant see the stain on it, put any transfers you want on them at this stage as well. Then give the whole lot a good coat of Mat Varnish (I used the army painter one). Stick any flocking or extra basing options you want on after this step. DONE!
Note: Step 6 is a very messy process, Make sure you're outdoors, in old clothes and wear old shoes. I did it barefoot and the stains on my feet didn't go away for about 3 weeks
