I was just wondering because Ive heard people complain about the AOBR figures lacking in detail but I wasnt sure if it was true or not.

The detail on them is fine. In fact, there are some with helmets that are unique to the AOBR set. But as Great White said, they are not easily customized, mainly in their poses. Which, come to think of it, are a little wonky. They work fine as rank-and-file soldiers, though. Mix them in with a few standard marines from a tactical box and you'll be fine.

They DO have 'less' detail, as well as being less customisable.
Where the details are lacking is around the detail areas, pouches and holsters, leg joints.

I loathe them, and apart from the fact that I already had a company of marines when AOBR came out, this was the main reason I never got any of them.

I didn't mind the AoBR models being lighter on the bling - my issue was the casting quality. Between the sometimes poorly placed sprue vents and significant mold shift, I'd have to break out the sculpting putty to get a complete rim around shoulder pads or put all of the ribbing back on soft joints (I won't even get into the hell I've had with the organic Ork shapes).

That said, I still think they're worthwhile if you're looking for a comparatively cheap way to bulk up an Ork or SM force. On their own, they're less than stellar models, but their flaws are easily overlooked when spread across a few squads (especially important for the SM - get enough Orks together and they'll look suitably impressive, even if they're all AoBR slugga boys). The Orks have a more open sculpt than the Tac Marines, which makes them easy enough to convert.

I think that the orks ib the set are much more suitable to customization, as simple re positioning of some of the writs can really take away some of the stiffness that they have. The marines however are very awkward, and are not very easy to re position into something a bit more interesting

AoBR models are a decent investment.

Everybody will be able to tell the Captain from a mile away.

The Dread is pretty decent quality though, and you do get a nice MultiMelta with it.

The infantry models are pretty good and are a perfect way to get an extra squad of 10 marines. The main trick with them IMO would be to simply not field them as a whole squad. Take your existing 20-30 Marines and add 2-3 of the AoBR to each squad, that way they don't stand out and the poses are less repetitive.

The Terminators are not bad either. I think the biggest use for them has been to get a cheap set of arms to magnetize. Buy a box of Assault Terminators, magnetize their arms and weapons, and then get AoBR terminator arms to have the option for almost all the Terminators in C:SM.

Ive got Ork boyz from that set, and Ork boyz from the boxes, and other than being able to pose them differently and having more options, no, the detail is the same.

The AoBR was my first hobby purchase - and how I hated the marines. The pose and general aesthetic is fine, but I recall some really dreadful mould-lines and flash - which back then I had no experience how to remove properly.

They work perfectly as Rank and File. They are three piece models that look as good on the tabletop as any others. You'll be hard pressed to tell the difference if you mix them with other, more complex Space Marines.

Their "static" pose doesn't feel out of place if you think of the marines as in a sort of alert pose.

It translates better in a pic.

The way it was explained to me by the guys at my local club was this: For marines, yes, for orks no. I guess it just depends on what you want to play.

The Orks are fine. They dont come in shoota boy though, only slugga boyz. So yea, if your going for shoota boyz they are a waste of time really. But there are some pretty potent Ork builds using just slugga boyz.

Most of them are easily repositioned, and more boyz is always good! You never know when you're going to need Sluggas!

Some of the ork bodies can have their arms removed without touching any armour plate. This alone makes them great as you can use them for Lootas without too much hassle, leaving the other bodies free for Burnas!
