Hey guys! I'm just starting up 40k and while I love most of it, I do find that the model proportions are very off. I don't mind as much on men, but the women look very... odd.
I want to make a female Officer in the Cadian Command Squad with a Naga Sniper from the Infinity line. You can see that model here: http://www.coolminiornot.com/shop/media/catalog/product/c/o/cor280803.jpg
I'm thinking of cutting off the regular Officer's cap and placing that on her, as well as replacing the sniper's rifle with a lasgun or some other Cadian weapon. Perhaps have her holding a laspistol as well? Does anyone know if this model's sniper rifle is removable? For reference, here is the CCS http://www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_CustomProductCatalog/m2620123_99120105036_IGCadianCommand5MPPK_873x627.jpg
Now, my main concern is making this a legal "50% GW" model that I can field. I'm also planning on putting her on a GW resin base and, if that's not enough, sticking that Command Squad banner on the base as well. Does anyone know if it's also possible to make that trench coat the CCS Officer has out of Green Stuff? Maybe not even an entire trench coat, but almost half of a long skirt, because I think that draping material behind the officer is a very "officer-looking" thing. In general, I'm trying to avoid butchering the pretty sniper model. My best example of this "half of a long skirt" is here :http://images.wikia.com/deadfantasy/images/4/48/Vanille.jpg Just this back half of a skirt that trails behind you, except a bit longer.
If anyone has ideas on the 'legality' of what I'm thinking and any tips on doing this in the least destructive way possible, it'd be great!

Ermm 50% rule? I dont really remember a 50% rule. Is it your store or something?
I mean GW stores themselves usually wont allow any significant 3rd party stuff

Well I went into my GW store (I'm in NYC) and asked I could do that. They said to make sure that 50% of it needs to be made from GW products, which includes green stuff, in order to play in their store. That's kind of my only option, as I really don't know anybody else who plays 40k in my circle of friends.
Edit: And by "they" I meant one of the sales associates I asked. Maybe other people have different rules?

Naga sniper's weapon is a separate piece, but has a pile of other crap on it as well - part of her hair and hand.
Few of the sniper models come with a separate sniper rifle that does not have some other part connected to it (like a hand or arm).
I play Aleph in Infinity.

Awww man, that's gonna be....hard to do. Think GW will be okay with me not replacing that gun? Have you not heard of that 50% rule either?

We generally have managers who don't allow any but the current version of any model into the store (or the current version of the gamer ) which is why precious few gamers over 16 frequent it.
I don't (and you couldn't pay me to) play in a GW store.

Aw man, that's a bummer. I'd like to play, but I just don't have 1) a lot of friends and 2) the type of friends that'd be into things like miniatures. :(

When GW actually ran the Grand Tournaments or whatever they are called they published rules yearly. One of the rules was that models should consist of at least 50% GW parts, or maybe 25% depending how far back you go. The stipulation remains most places even if it is not written down, the rule of cool is generally paramount though.
