Hi there, I've been looking at getting into 40K for about a week now. The new rule book has come out which has left me in a bit of a predicament. My plan was to get AOBR, blood angels codex, Dante and Sanguinor guards to start, with the plan of getthing the battleforce next month. However AOBR doesnt have the new rule book - i dont know how different it is. Plus, the new set will be out - but I have no interest in getting bloodangels or chaos marines. What should I do?

Buy other Blood Angels stuff.

The stuff in AoBR isn't really worth it for a Blood Angel player.

Wait for the new rulebook and buy that.

Patience is key. You may see something in the new rules that spark an interest in a completely different army.

I understand that, I was thinking of getting the battleforce instead, but I really want the ability to be able to introduce friends into the game too.

You have picked a good time to start the new edition should be very interesting. One of my armies is blood angels and I field Dante and his sanguinary guard squad a bit spendy in terms of in points cost but can be well worth it. Blood angels are a great army and are fairly fun to play, I have really enjoyed having an army of them.

If your building towards a blood angels army the AOBR box may not be the best way to go as it comes with tactical marines, terminators, and a dreadnaught none of which see much action in a blood angels army.

Allot of people field kind of heavy on assault marines for blood angels and baal predators and normal predators. Generally the lists also include several sanguinary priests. All of that could change at the end of the week though.

That can be difficult, I have found the best way is to play small point games with people or have them proxy an army to try the game out and different armies out(would suck to pick an army and spend money on it and find out you hate the army).

Thanks for replying you too by the way! Yeah, I understand they are cost heavy, I just like the hard hitting perfectly accurate deepstrike team that it gives. I was thinking of converting the Dreadnought into a Furioso? If I dont go with AOBR, then when people come over and ask to try out 40K and Warmachine (I play warmachine too) then I wont have anything to show them.

A great option that doesn't require allot of models and gives a decent feel for the game would be the kill teams game type. 200 point game with 0-2 troop squads, 0-1 elites, and 0-1 fast attack choices. Kill teams has a few more rules besides what I mentioned but it can work very nicely to teach the basics of the game.

To get your army built up though you may want to check out ebay(or the dakka swap shop) you can find a partial army to start from for fairly cheap.

On the Uk ebay I looked quick and there are a few decent armies for sale for not allot of money.
For example:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Warhammer-40K-Blood-Angels-Army-/160826868849?pt=UK_Toys_Wargames_RL&hash=item2572074471 for about 100 GBP

There will be an update FAQ/Errata for pretty much every codex when the new rulebook comes out at the end of the week from the sound of it. A new codex may be a while down the road though.

ooh, ok that sounds very interesting! Thanks. I had a look on ebay too and found that, but I'd much rather paint my own men and fix them up. I dont mind spending a bit more on my guys.
That kill teams, do you need an HQ?

Kill teams does not use any HQ or Heavy support, and you don't have any required FOC slots to fill just 200 points and 0 - 2 troop choices, 0 - 1 Elite choices, and 0 - 1 Fast attack choices.

The full official rules are in the battle missions book from games workshop. If you do a search for kill team rules on google you should be able to find some tournament versions that may suffice.
