Just wondering why someone would take Flash Gitz over Lootas. The only things Flash Gitz have over Lootas are-1. Assault, 2. Possible AP, 3. Premeasuring their 24 inch range.

To me the point cost for the Gitz don't compensate for what they do. At 25pts per model compared to 15pts for the Lootas.

Lootas have 1. 48 inch range, 2. d3 shots each, 3. Str 7

Am I missing something?

You are not. Lootaz are more efficient than flash gits (damage done/points) at shooting anything, including terminators. Add the awesomeness of other heavy supports and $ costs per model, and you'll see why they are rarely seen on the tabletop.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.

Indeed. Lootas provide much the Ork army thrives on (long ranged AT against softer vehicles, good AI, not bad against MC's either), while Flash Gits tend to be a tad schizophrenic in regards to what they are firing (random AP). While they tend to make sense conceptually (shooty nobs, as opposed to slashy nob squads), their efficiency is hampered by their price, their low ballistic skill, and the fact that they compete with Battlewagons, Kanz, and Dreads for space in your army.

Lootas are better but Flashgitz are not useless.
They're shooty nobz, now since normal nobz and flashgitz are more on the same page (No wound allocation gimmicks) they're actual quite a good choice.

I played some games with them, if you base your army around them then they can do work.
Obviously more dakka is the way to go! Cheap, mabye 6th will smile on them more!

It's their low BS versus the price you're paying that's the issue. You're still only hitting on 5's, and it thus makes it hard for them to put out the firepower you'd need to make them worthwhile. A unit of 5, with More Dakka, costs 150pts and still only gets about 3 hits in per shooting phase. The Variable AP means that they can be used safely against low save models (which orks are already have little issue with), but are a gamble against units with 3+ and better saves.

With 6th edition, and particularly how lower AP weapons now modify the damage chart further, they could make useful AV infantry - but we shall have to see.

Which was my point, with terminators becoming a problem (Not for orks though) people might start taking advantage and maxing on terminators, then the Gitz possible low AP might shine.

Like we both said, hopefully 6th works in their favour, the conversions would be so good!

As stated before, lootaz will kill more terminators per point than flash gits do. And lootaz are terrible at killing terminators.

Even with AP d6-1 (which also requires a pain boy to prevent your 45 models from killing themselves) you have a 50% chance to do nothing and a 50% to maybe kill some terminators. 10 flash gits kill an average of four terminators - if they roll AP2 or lower. If they don't... well, you only get so many tries with 24" range before getting charged. Rounded off with the inherited vulnerability to S8 like nobz, there really isn't any reason to pick them.

Thanks for all the comments. My orks are going to be Bad moons so fluff wise gitz would be cool. But unless things change in 6th, I am not going to bother with them.

Welp. You may have noticed this already, but with 6th Ed, Flash Gitz Gitfindas now ignore cover rather than allowing pre-measuring. Lootas are still generally more useful as they're cheaper and can soften up vehicles, but I feel that Gitz are worth their price as cover-hunters, especially considering that all six of the mission types use Night Fighting now. Maybe I'm just biased, as i see a lot of snipers improving their cover ro 2+, and Overwatch is hilarious. . .but they shouldn't be ruled out as a completely useless unit nowadays.

Flash Gitz need a better weapon load out to justify being taken still.

They eat up a valuable heavy support slot that gives nothing else but medium range shooting nob bodies that needs another slot to transport them somewhere to be effective.

In the end, adding in all the points to make the Flash Gitz remotely viable are too much for an army to field if under a point constraint not reach apoc levels.

People seem to forget Flash Gitz are NOBZ with guns. If you just look at their shooting ability relative to their cost, then yes they look bad. But they have a Nob stat-line, and that's part of the reason why they're so costly?

Are they worth their points? I don't think so.

Badrukk might be worth his points now though. As a character he gets to allocate his rolles of 6 freely. So 3 Gitz+Kapt'n might actually be useful.

Gitz are useful. They're better than normal nobz now.
Badrukk will be a monster but at 135p he's quite fragile considering the new wound allocation.

He only has 2 wounds and a 5+ INV.

I'm thinking that 7 and 1 Painboy all with more dakka and 2 Ammo runts or grot orderlies or a mix is the best idea.
At 250p it's quite cheap and your getting 16 wounds 14 4+ armour saves feel no pain and a poisoned weapon.
Lots of attacks on the charge and a good amount of firepower. 14 Shots 3.1 Wounds at T4 and a 1/3 chance of getting a terminator killing shot. That's 130p of Terminator, you then assault. Getting 4 Attacks each so 32 attacks 16 Hit 10.6 Wounds 1.7 Kills against a terminator.

So 4.8 dead terminators before they strike back (Considering PF is in favour now) That's 201P

Also when assaulting a guard blob (30 Guardsmen with Lasguns) when overwatch happens 0.27 Wounds are taken, effectively meaning nothing happens to them.

Unless I'm mistaken, Badrukk has a 3++ save, thanks to Goldtoof Armour.

You also have to keep in mind that pain boyz are characters to, so you better not count on that poison weapon, as you should be refusing challenges.

Goldtoof Armour only gives a 3+ Armour save, not a 3++ Invulnerable.

Badrukk is 3+/5++

Nope, Flash Gitz definitely still not worth it. It's sad though as they really add a lot of character (I loved them in DoW1) for a dakkamob but they're just too expensive. Maybe if they were Elites and automatically came with all of the weapon upgrades by default rather than having to buy them, they'd be in a much better position.
