Hey dakka, I was looking at the Space Wolves and how they can be combined with another force so I was thinking about Space Wolves plus another army at 1,750. So i put aside the extra points to get another army to ally up with, but i am not sure which army to use. I can also tweak the list already listed to be more viable in 6th edition.
Rune Priest: Jaws/Lightning 100pts
Rune Priest: Jaws/Murderous Hurricane 100pts
Rune Priest: Tempest Wraith/Lightning 100pts
Wolf Guard: Combi Melta, Powerfist 43pts
10 Grey Hunters: 2 melta, wulfen, standard 180pts
Wolf Guard: Combi Melta, Powerfist 43pts
10 Grey Hunters: 2 melta, wulfen, standard 180pts
Wolf Guard: Combi Plasma, Powerfist 43pts
10 Grey Hunters: plasma melta, wulfen, standard 180pts
5 Long Fangs: 4 Missile launchers 115pts
5 Long Fangs: 4 Missile launchers 115pts
5 Long Fangs: 4 Missile launchers 115pts
1,314pts

I don't think it's a clever idea to try to make a 6th Edition List without actually seeing the rules. I mean, discussing rumours is acceptable, but taking these as fact and using them to build a list isn't, I'm afraid. There's likely some small rule that's been overlooked or simply not leaked. It's two more days, surely you can wait until then?

an besides I believe it is only 1 HQ 1-2 troop 1 elite, 1 FA, and 1 Heavy. You can't have another list as an ally.

For me, it never hurts to ponder and keep thinking about new lists. I have a list similar to yours (3 big squads led by IC + WG, and 3 LF) and I have been pondering with some options.
Idea 1: Drop 1 rune priest and make the other 2 Level 2 with Divination. This allows me to make Long Fangs twin-linked AND ignore cover saves = perfect for killing off their vital units.
Idea 2: Take a bastion/aegis defense with Skyfire gun. LF will then get 4+ cover save and can shoot down deepstriking units and flyers.
Idea 3: There is a high chance that the gun upgrade on the bastion require a model to man it, I am thinking of taking a Blood Angel Sang Priest which gives at least 2 squads of LF FNP AND that Sang Priest can man the Skyfire gun. This makes it really tough to take these guys out.
Idea 4: Change WG from combi-melta + pf to SS + TDA + SB and put him in the front. He will soak up a few shots before getting blown to pieces. Add a Sang Priest to make him even tougher.

FWIW I think this is wrong. I think that FOC is FOR the ally troops and you have to take 1 HQ and 1 troop to unlock the others (they are mandatory) and the rest is the most you can take from the ally, I don't think the main army you are attaching to has any FOC requirements to get an ally other then their normal ones. At least under 2K points.
Either way, as a SW player...I'm probably going to look to IG or maybe just regular SM's as my ally, since they are both apparently "brothers". I don't know if you can use a named character like Vulkan in an ally list, but twin linking the meltas and flamers for an army that gives you 2 meltas in your hunters for 5 points seems like a good idea. Especially with the +2 on the damage chart for AP1 weapons. will pretty much guarantee you wreck the majority of stuff you shoot at in xtra crispy range for them.
IG is just a no brainer due to their high tier status and some of the things they offer that SW's are weak at...outflanking goodness.
Just some stuff to think about, but yeah..pick up your rulebook on Saturday then start list bashing...

just as an add on...Divination seems awesome, especially if you can attach a RP to say....a troop set with an upgraded IG HQ that allows them to scout/outflank. BIg old blob with maybe some BS4 snapfire, or 5+ cover saves.
Don't know if that's possible yet, but yes....divination on the RP I think..

Something that has been brought up on some other forums is shoot and scout, using the wolf priest with the rune priests ^.^ Automatically Appended Next Post: I think that guard would go well because of there flyers and anti-flyer capability

My general thought would be to drop one Rune Priest and one squad of Grey Hunters. That should get you down to the 1000 point range. If you then selected another 750 points from an allied list that would complement what you have in your existing army then I say go for it.
I would go Blood Angels myself. If you have 1000 points of shooty Wolves, then it would be perfectly acceptable to have 750 points of close combat to help them. Assault Squads and their ability to react quickly to people getting close to you would be helpful I think.
I know the Wolf players out there are thinking "Then why not just use Skyclaws with a Wolf Priest attached?" Well you could do that but a Librarian with a jump pack is better than a Wolf Priest and an Assault Squad is better than Skyclaws for not too much of a difference in points.
I keep expecting to see Mephiston raise his ugly head in some of these new lists lol

@Reivax26: Since you cannot assault from a Rhino/Razorback whether it moved or not, 5-man BA assault squad is kindda suck now.
That means you would take Assault Marines, for that, I would prefer an IC that can hold his own candle. Librarian is going to be taken out by challenge instantly. I guess we will see how awesome some of these buffing power are.

I feel that Imperial guard would work just as well, you can blob squad for some extra bodies and you can take hydra flak tanks or other nice guard units like 4 plasma guns in a company command squad, you can have a more aggressive space wolf list that would work as a counter punch with guard firepower. Also vendettas they are a very nice unit
