In 5th edtion, couldn't assault troops with jump packs move 6 inches and assault without having to take a dangerous terrain test??? All my 5th edition rulebooks have disappeared....

Yes, you can elect to move the 6" on the ground as normal infantry if you like.

But can you assault without having to make the dt test? The guy who I am arguing against claims that even if you move the 6 on the ground, RAW you still have to make the test.

In 5e, Jump Infantry assault on foot. This is not optional, you cannot choose to ignore terrain.

Right, but the guy is claiming that you had to make a dangerous terrain test because you had on a jump pack.

If you assault through difficult terrain, it is just a difficult terrain test.

In their movement phase move, IF they choose to move using their jump packs, they're not slowed but they treat difficult as dangerous. When choosing to move on foot they just roll difficult terrain like infantry. And they always move like infantry in the assault phase. The rules are quite clear.
