Anyone else notice this? We just overlaid the old templates with the new ones. The new ones are slightly larger.
The flame template is now @ 0.3" longer
Large blast is now @ 5 1/4 "

Yes, but you don't count the trim, only what's inside the clear part.

Are you counting the border? The area of effect is only on the inside of the border. That's the idea - whatever is framed by the template is affected.

I understand how the new templates are but the inside area is bigger. I didn't take a picture to show here but we laid the old ones inside the new ones and there was a significant gap around the edge to the new borders. I didn't buy them because I have a few of the older ones. Now I feel like I will be at (a slight) disadvantage using non munitorum ones. Check for yourselves if you know someone who bought the new set

I have the dark grey plastic ones from the third ed starter set and they are also a smidgen bigger than the green ones. It's almost impossible to notice, but they are.

Dont forget timetowaste85, that this issue is more a conceptual one. If you know that template A is longer than template B, and you have the choice of which to use, but your opponents do not, then are you not choosing to gain an advantage over them? Especially with premeasuring, the ability to hit an enemy with your flamer when they can not do the same is not something to be desired in a game, regardless of how serious you take it.
Would you use a stretched out tape measure, if it was stretched as a factory defect? Is it ok as long as you didnt stretch it? Or is it ok as long as you and your opponent use the same (streched) tape measure? What if its your only available tape measure?
These questions dont belong in the game... yes they happen but it is not a desirable situation by any means.
