I'm yet to pick up the 6th edition rule book but all of the talk has got me wondering...

How would a Tau squad fare if they sat back and did their thing shooting, while sending a couple troops of Boys WAAAGHing into CC?

I know it'll be more difficult than that, but could it be successful?

I think it's pretty self explanatory. Give the Boyz a Kustom Force Field and footslog or transport them downfield while the Tau provide fire support.

Tau are obviously much better at the high strength range, and they would pair well with Lootas which hit the mid-strength range. You could use Tau Railguns to punch through AV14 or ID deathstars or provide fire support at long range against gunlines - Predators, Leman Russes.

The Orks would work exactly as before, just with a much more effective backfield unit of high strength shooting.

You could use the Troop choice as Fire Warriors just to hold home plate objective and use your Tau HQ at midfield with Fusion guns providing a mobile Melta platform.

The Tau will pretend that Orks are Kroot

6+ = 6/36 | Reroll 1s = 7/36 | Reroll Misses = 11/36 ||||||| 5+ = 12/36 | Reroll 1s 14/36 | Reroll Misses = 20/36 ||||||| 4+ = 18/36 | Reroll 1s 21/36 | Reroll Misses = 27/36
3+ = 24/36 | Reroll 1s 28/36 | Reroll Misses = 32/36 ||||||| 2+ = 30/36 | Reroll 1s 35/36 ||||||| Highest of 2d6 = 4.47

I was thinking about footslogging them. I'm very new to Orks and 40k in general. How would I give them Kustom Force Field? I think I'm just being an idiot and over looking it, but can someone point me in the right direction?

1 oh god don't footslog haha, 50 pts for a good trukk, and it's totally worth it
2 KFF is gear you can give the big mek HQ, and probably one of the most used Ork HQs because of the cover saves he gives everything

Also, Ork and Tau always looked amazing on paper, I've never gotten a chance to actually see/use it, if you're successful let us know!

I've been thinking about Firewarriors and Broadsides with my Orks. Can't Broadsides come in units of 3? No idea what the Tau HQ should be, or what (if any) other Tau units would be best to support my Boyz.

I don't write the rules. My ego just lives and dies by them one model at a time.

Tau HQ Should just be a Shas'el or Shas'O and have them hop around with a couple of shield drones laying down some hurt. Fire Warriors are looking like they're actually going to be pretty good, a lot of people say throw them in a devilfish if you want a scoring unit. Broadsides do come in teams of three, but I like to do two teams of two with one being a team leader with two shield drones. Hammerheads are good support for Boyz I think, the railgun/blast railgun shot both can lay down some hurt whether its versus vehicles or footsloggers.

I think I can only take 1 Ally Heavy Support choice, so 1 Hammerhead Railgun does not look as appealing as 3 Broadside Railguns.

Ahh. In that case I completely agree. Just throw some shield drones on them!

That'll solve the Orks failing at anti tank
