I am going to be grabbing some tiger brushes soon, i got a set of them 2 years ago and i think they worked good. But is there a better brush out there for a reasonable price, the tiger brand was 4 for 12 bucks. I need new brushes for my tyranid

Rosemary & Co series 33 are probably the best bang for your buck. W&N Series 7's are expensive but very good. Not used any Raphael, but from what I hear they're middle ground between the Rosemary and W&N.

In my opinion, Raphael is on the same level as Rosemary and W&N as far as quality. The reservoir on Raphael brushes is larger than the W&N as well. I use Raphael brushes for just about everything I paint and I highly recommend them. Do yourself a favor and buy a couple decent brushes and take care of them and they'll last you a long time. Buying cheap brushes will end up costing more in the long run. Plus, there is a considerable amount of difference in just the feel of painting with a high quality brush, it can't be beat.

QFT
cheap brushes are lighter, have rougher finish and bad balance...
and cheap brushes dont really have good bristles that will hold their tip, so you will get fishtails or a lot of stray hairs really quick!

for all fairness... Citadel brushes are pretty good considering their price

i got some tiger brand today, they didnt have any of the high quality your recommended. I had to pain fine detail with a bad brush it was either i learn or i would have to drop cash on what i cant afford, thank god for new brushes my tyranids need a new start.

It's a shame, you really are doing yourself a disservice with those brushes. This brush right here, Raphael 8404 Kolinsky Sable Brush - Size 0 ($11.65) will do just about anything you need, granted you take care of it. Rinse it thoroughly every day and use some sort of brush cleaner/restorer once a week and it will last you a very long time.

As a matter of fact, in my current selection of brushes, I use that one and a size 2/0 of the same brand for everything (except oil colors, you should use synthetics for those). And in reality, the size 0 gets the most use, even for detail painting (i.e.- lettering on scrolls, books, purity seals, space marine eyes, etc.).

Some times you need to spend extra to save more. Just like the company I work for (a mechanical contractor), we will spend extra money on tools and equipment if it means we make the job safer (doesn't apply to painting minis, I guess) and more efficient. Think of our brushes as tools; nice, quality ones will make our job (hobby) easier and save us money in the long run. A win/win if you ask me.

Sorry for the little bit of a rant and good luck anyways!
