Welcome to this project log,

In amongst getting our webstore composed and stock added I have decided that with the little free time I have, I would show you all some of the things that are being worked on down in this little corner of our world...

I present to you the project log featuring what will be The Supply Drop's (heavily carved) Imperial Guard army used for all occasions. These guy's didn't have an official name at launch but this has now changed, however there is still no fluff as of yet, but will be very soon.

Meet the The United Solarian Military Corporation.

Below is the first 5 troopers, this is what our normal units will look like. This also shows the colour scheme I am going for with this army:

I think Guard in desert colour are fantastic and also we chose this colour as a symbol of respect to all our Service Personnel deployed out in the Middle East - and other places - at present. Be it Royal Air Force, Army or Royal Navy or any Allied Force out there on operational duty, we have massive respect for these guys and girls and this in a way will be our little tribute.

I am giving each of them the fantastic range of Pig Iron Gas Mask heads, because not only are these cool and easier to paint than fleshy faces, they also show the real side of the military who have to deploy with these things in the heat out in places like Afghanistan and Iraq!

Below, I am also showing off one of the many weapon conversions I have on the table. I am aiming for as modern looking force as I can possibly get with Sci-Fi miniatures, and this will be one of the main Assault Rifles used by standard troopers:

Needs a little clean up and other bits applied but happy with what I have so far.

Now lunch break and then back to the office desk we go to get the store updated...

Thanks for looking guys,

TSD

I like, they look well done and it's a nice start to the army. The rifle itself looks really cool too. A bull pup design would have been cool but I'm not sure it's possible with the Cadian lasgun.

I shall be following

Swampy: Thanks for your reply. I have knocked together a Sub Machine style gun, based loosely on the UMP45 design which has to be my fave SMG. See Pic Below:

I am also trying to draw up a design for a bullpup before I carve one out, it is indeed possible as I have seen it done. Not great but good attempts. I will try and improve on the trials of those before me when it comes to bullpup design.

Thanks for looking,

TSD

Hey ladies and gents,

So, having looked at the Rough rider models and deciding that they are not 40k enough for my liking I have decided to make a 'Counts As'...

Meet the ATV

Still WIP and needs alot of fixing and sticking but this is the base I will now be working with.

I like your carbine lasguns. I've done a similar, though much simpler, thing to mine just because the modern lasguns are absolutely gigantic, unwieldy beasts. But I'm not doing them to an entire army since most of my Guard are old school metal Cadians.

Marneus Calgar is referred to as "one of the Imperium's greatest tacticians" and he treats the Codex like it's the War Bible. If the Codex is garbage, then how bad is everyone else?

And here I thought my only claim to fame was having a pile of warnings from the 40K Background forum.

I'm glad you like my Marines. That's been the whole intent behind the army (aside from my own pointless, wasted time and money in pursuit of a fifteen-year-old childhood fantasy. ). I wanted to make Space Marines that even people who don't like Space Marines could enjoy.

Anyway, it's a single figure right now (in a few incarnations as I've pulled him apart at least three times, haha). But the idea was to make weapons that looked a bit more battlefield usable by the regular unmodified joes of the IGuard. Oh, and will also work for the plastic Squats I have lying around since those old lasguns are atrocious.
Spoiler:

I think we're doing similar things, at the basic level, since yours are far more detailed with optics, grips, etc. Chopping them just in front of the site assembly and giving them a stubby barrel protrusion. My only further consideration was to do to them what I did to my compact bolt pistol and slice them lengthwise and file them down from the inner faces. Of course, the obvious downside to this is that it's incredibly time consuming and detail oriented (slicing clean the hands would be a nightmare if you didn't just plan to resculpt them entirely). But you'd (theoretically, since I haven't actually tried it) end up with a slimmer, shorter lasgun that doesn't look like a giant brick in the model's hands.

The pose on that Guardsmen is fantastic. The weapon looks great as well.

One weapon I will also be imitating is the AR15 and your cut and carve job there almost resembles an assault rifle... Great stuff!

Have I said I like that pose?

Feel free to steal it. Everything on that model is off of the basic Cadian sprues except the respirator on his chest (which you can't see well because the picture quality sucks) which I think comes from the command sprue? Dunno, I bought a pack of them as bits.

The guy was designed to be a set piece. Had envisioned him talking to one of my Space Marines on a diorama or something. Maybe. I have a billion ideas. Some of them involve super heavy tanks. But no time or dedication to get any of them done when I've already got another 60 Marines to go in my Tall Scale project. And I have to exercise some level of fiscal restraint from time to time on tangential projects. He's too nonchalant for an infantry squad, walking around with his helmet off and such (hey, those things get hot and heavy real fast). But I do like the character he imparts. The rifle position is one I called "Weak Side Samurai Style" (due to it hanging at hip height like a sword in a scabbard) when I was in the Marines. Purists hate it since it leaves the barrel likely to get jammed in the dirt if you kneel and aren't careful, but it's an easy way to get the rifle out of the way when you're not in a combat situation. It will need a sling modeled on at some point if he makes it to the table. I'm thinking about slapping the kneeling Catachan HW legs on that pose instead so at least he'd be taking cover.

I know what you mean, our SA80's used to get slung in the same style not for any reason other than pure laziness to keep holding onto it when there was no need!!

Sounds like a man like me, I have a ton of idea's and no time to bring them to life... I barely get time to work on the army I have listed here, let alone bring more plastic into my kitchen - which may I say is the cupcake domain of the wife!! The bigger the mound of plastic here, the bigger her frown gets lol.

Think the kneeling pose would be a better solution for the purists. Saves being flamed as he is not in a correct pose blah blah!

For the record though, I like him as he is

As you can see from the first post these chaps now have a name, pondered on this for a long time and now finalised it. I will have some fluff and more photo landing on Dakka very soon.
