According to the new SM FAQ it looks like combat squads can now ride in the same transport despite being separate units provided they can all fit.

It makes sense and I like it. Now you can combat squad but use the rhino to get both 5 man teams in good positions.

Been out of the game for awhile, trying to find time to get back into it. |

Yes, this makes more sense.
10 troops in a squad are best friends and can share a ride. Then, the SGT says "We need to split up but you 5 aren't allowed in this vehicle any more. Get your own ride."

Just remember you have to declare them combat squads during deployment according to the FAQ. Looks like Marines can break the transports can only carry one unit rule due to overriding it.

It allows allows you to do some amusing things. Was playing yesterday against DW and speeders, and had a tac squad in a rhino, combat squaded, with a flamer and lascannon, each in a separate half. Opponent had run next to the rhino to try and charge another unit, but failed. So I had the one squad inside use one fire point to flame the termies (Killing 3, opponent had horrible rolls), while the other combat squad used the remaining point to shoot the lascannon and destroy a speeder.

Looks like you could have a heavy weapon pop out the hatch and fire at one target and a melta gun pop out and fire at a different target assuming you put them in different combat squads.
