Jump Infantry marines can use their packs in move or assault, not both.
Jump Infantry can Deep Strike in from Reserve in movement
Vets can use Heroic Intervention rule to assault after DS
Charging is 2D6, but can't reroll the range as the jump packs were already used in movement to DS in from Reserve
Shrike gives your army Fleet
Fleet allows you to reroll one or more of the Charge Dice (or run distance...)

Does this all work together?

Cheers,

So Vanguard just became viable in a Shrike list.

@Grey Templar: with 2D6 scattering and expensive point cost? I don't think so. They have the same number of attacks as a similar GH squad that even if they make it into assault won't even survive.

Blood Angels would be the more likely candidate for this tactic as they only scatter D6.

BA don't have Shrike which was the entire point here.

Except now they can actually successfully assault out of the Deep Strike instead of hoping they don't scatter over 6" away from the enemy. Since they can reroll their charge distance.

Yeah, they are still way overpriced, but they might just have a place in a Shrike list.

BA Vang Vets don't have Decent of Angels special rule like Assault Marines do.

They do if they buy Jump Packs. All units in the BA codex with Jump Packs gain DoA.

They cannot re-roll their charge into combat because coming into play via deep strike counts as if using their jump packs during the movement phase.

My reaction was to take said die, and hurl it out the window of the 3rd floor of our student union. I then placed a Commissar model next to the rest of my dice pile. They immediately began performing much better.

They are getting a reroll from Fleet special rule, not Jump Units special rule. The Fleet re-roll is different...

Jump Units (pg. 47),
"Jump units can use their jump packs once each turn to move more swiftly in either the Movement phase or the Assault phase - they cannot use their jump packs in both phases in the same turn."
Assault Phase
"If a Jump model uses its jump pack to charge into assault, it can re-roll its charge distance."

Shrike gives Fleet
Fleet (pg. 35 BRB) "...can reroll one or more of the dice when determing run moves and charge ranges (such as a single D6 from a charge range roll, for example)."

Grey Templar wrote:They do if they buy Jump Packs. All units in the BA codex with Jump Packs gain DoA.

Didn't realize, I'll confirm when I get home. Only have the BRB here at the moment.

The sad bit is BA is my latest army, but I've been playing it for about a year... and never realized I could give the Vang Vets DoA... LOL. Probably because I didn't use them.

With the advent of 6e, and looking at the possibility of taking allies, I'm looking at all units all over again. Still expensive, but if its possible for Shrike to give the BA Vang Vets Fleet... a same turn assault from DS seems more viable than ever... I might have to at least playtest that once or twice.

Hmm... I will be re-reading Shrike's rule tonight as well. This allies thing is going to see all kinds of new situations. Luckily, I think the most of this is going to have to happen at higher point games.

Hmm... Single D6" scatter from DS, assault same turn 2D6" with reroll one or both dice from Fleet, the only thing the opponent can really do is Overwatch at BS1... wow.
