Would guns purchased as part of fortifications be targetable as per the rules in the BRB for gun emplacements? I'm assuming yes but want some kind of consensus here. Also, would it receive cover benefits from the fortification itself?

I would say yes, without a doubt. The guns have a toughness and a wounds value, so there's no reason why you shouldn't be able to shoot at them. They are also auto-hit in melee.

On a semi-related note: we can see from the various entries that an emplacement w/ Icarus lascannon is 35pts. and a quad-gun is 50pts. etc.
What would you guys think is a fair cost for a twin-linked Icarus turret like the one that comes as part of the Fortress of Redemption if we llowed it to be taken elsewhere on other fortifications (bunkes and bastions)?
It is included in the cost of the fortress, but that is such a cool turret my group wants to allow it as an upgrade for bastions, etc.?
How much to add for the twin-linked aspect?

The TL-Icarus comes with the cost of the fortress. Check the rulebook. You can spend the extra 35 points geting the missile silo to shoot Ordnance Barrage Str 8 AP3.

Huh? BS of autoguns when one model is manning it is the BS of that model. When it shoots automatically it is BS2.

I know the twin-linked Icarus is part of the FOR, but my question was what do you guys think would be a fair points cost for one considering the regular non- tl variety is 35 pts?
My group wants to use it on other fortifictions like a bastion, etc.
How much would seem fair to add to it's cost to account for twin-link?

Well if you look at one example, a Twin Linked Assault cannon for a razorback is 35 points, but that upgrades from a heavy bolter.
an Assault cannon for some terminators is 5 points less than that, and a heavy bolter for a dev squad is 10.
So an extra 20-25 points should suffice.

I would say 40 points. It's like making it master crafted with GK weapons.
35 points for Icarus on Bastion/Aegis.
40 points for TLIcarus on Bastion/Aegis.
Of course, cannot take more than 1 per fortification. You can house rule to allow multiple Aegis. It would be cool for a campaign.

Twin-linked is a pretty powerful upgrade. I'd be tempted to double the cost. Automatically Appended Next Post: leohart wrote:I would say 40 points. It's like making it master crafted with GK weapons.
maybe only inasmuch as you're shooting once, so you'd only get to reroll one miss.
Or, it's like having preferred enemy against everything, PLUS having skyfire and interceptor...making it twin linked is a pretty big deal.

One has already paid for skyfire and interceptor in the 35 points base cost. Thus 40-45 points for the twin-linking is fair. At 50 points, one might as well take the quad gun.

Perfect example why I'll never play with house rules ;-) I'll never end up agreeing to most of them.
If you want the TL Icarus Lascannon, take the fortress, IMO.

I have an interesting question. Can the guns ever have a cover save? I can't find any kind of rule saying it can or can't, maybe I just missed something in the book.

Chaos isn’t a pit. Chaos is a ladder. Many who try to climb it fail, and never get to try again. The fall breaks them. And some are given a chance to climb, but refuse. They cling to the realm, or love, or the gods…illusions. Only the ladder is real. The climb is all there is, but they’ll never know this. Not until it’s too late.

They are more or less artillery that can fire without crew; they aren't vehicles, so presumably simply being behind the defense line would grant them the save.

My guess is if the gun is 25% obscured, it will get its 5+ cover save unless its 3+ armour save is better. If the gun emplacement is inside a building however, the building rules forbid targetting models in the building. Most gun emplacement (GW stuff) is on the battlement and thus will get the cover save from the battlement, confers 4+ cover save the model behind it and can be target.

Regarding a TL Icarus, considering it has double the range of the Quad Gun, I'd say the points cost would be at least as much as the Quad. The Quad obviously has the advantage of weight of fire, which is fine if you don't mind plinking at Hull Points, but a TL Icarus would have a pretty good chance of killing a flyer outright, and can do it from a much farther distance.

No reason why not. Just keep one or two of the small Aegis sections in front of it to give it 4+ cover more often than not.

Based on older codices (Tau/Eldar) most weapons that become twin-linked cost approximately 1.5x the original cost, so a 35-point weapon would cost approximately 50 points (based on the Eldar codex). However this is based on older codices when everything was over-costed to begin with so...

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.
