Howdy all, I was just pondering what to do with Tyranids, seeing as they get no allies of any kind, PLUS a nerf to controlling weapons on a Bastion for zero reason.

One idea is to allow Tyranids to ally with Tyranids. This lets tyranids have the same FOC as everyone else in sub 2000 point games, with the same restrictions that allies bring.(Namely 3 HQ, 4 Elite/Fast/Heavy, 8 troops, no allies scoring.)

Also, the idea of allowing IG allies as desperate allies as 'Genestealer' cults seems as plausible as many of the allies presented on the Allies chart. (And orks/tau/eldar? Do they every get infiltrated by stealers in the fluff?)

As for fortifications, if they make a distinction that Nids cant operate fortification guns, then we should have a Nid fortification option that no one else can operate. Fair is fair, and its not like the fortification was free--the Nid player bought it after all, and structural growths and gunbeasts to exist aready.

There's a .jpg of an altered allies chart that suggests the same thing. I agree; Nids should be BB with Nids.

Also agree; For fortifications, they should have hive chutes and fnp area terrain and synapse enhancers that make them EW again >:C

Admittedly I haven't played with or against Tyranids since their 4thE codex, but even as a horde army it was never difficult to fill their FOC at points under 2000. I'm not saying it isn't understandable to let them ally with themselves, but I'm wondering how much of an impact it would have. I agree with allies with IG though, not having Genestealer cults makes no sense.

I also agree that Nid's should get special buildings. That being said, Nids are given much more love when compared to most other Xenos (I think they're the only Xenos army to get a new codex in every edition, if you exclude Chaos), so it's not to unreasonable to expect them to get a codex sometime during 6th. Although my information is largely compiled from rumor-mongers of questionable accuracy, I would not be surprised if they got an update within the next couple of years.

Except no one will make a cult army, it will just be a regular nid army with a tank, vendetta, or vet squads, none of which really belong with nids.

There's no such distinction. Model up your terrain however you like.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

Shut it tyranids, MC's got a Huge Boost, and the FOC doubles at 2000 so you don't need an ally chart. The reason they didn't add IG as allies is because then play-to-win players would just abuse it

Please speak for your own zone, 2k games are standard in my area with 500-1k dead on most scales.

Lots of cheap SM armies here...and Chaos. Delicious Chaos......

Next to no nid armies here, everyone in my area believes Nids have been nerfed due to new mechanics.

even though this doesnt make sense from a fluff standpoint, just as an idea i'd like to throw out- i personally think dark eldar would make the most sense. the fact there are beastmasters as well as bio-engineers like urien rakarth seems to open the door for a "prometheus" like storyline you could spin where the tyranids are actually a creation of the dark eldar as bio-weapons. just an idea
a similar storyline arc could be devised for necrons, as an "all biological" army could be the creation sparked from an "all mechanical" race

Check the nids errata. Weapons in bastions and other buildings cannot be used by tyranids.

This is true of all allies though, and not a reason for tyranids to not have IG as allies. An infected cultist human doesn't forget how to drive a tank after all.

Yeah, DE make enough sense to have tyranids as desperate allies, and Chaos has been known to corrupt tyrands to use in their forces. I mean, Dark Angels and Space Wolves are mid-level allies, as are Black Templars right along side Eldar psykers. If those combos are possible, then the nid ally combos are not at all far fetched.
