I only have a few people I play at the moment and normally its my brother.

The issue is, he takes things so seriously that his turns take about 4 times as long as mine do and I play Orks! He plays DA and we rarely get past turn 2 or 3 in a game.
Our last game took 2/3 hours and we only just completed turn 2, which was annoying as I had JUST got my boyz in to CC and he had to pack up and go which meant he won on KP's.
Its the same story. He spends about 5-10minutes per unit deciding where to move... where to shoot... etc...

We only play 1000pt games!

I plan way ahead and I might take a while but that's only down to moving the mobz and rolling but I still get my turn done alot quicker than he does!

How can I speed him up!?
I'm seriously contemplating a turn timer as he seems to think I take longer than he does.
I was thinking:
5 - 10 minutes for movement
10 - 15 minutes for shooting
10 - 15 minutes for assault
10 Minutes for misc.

I mean surely he should be able to keep inside those time frames? I would have considered the following realistic for either of our armies:
3 minutes for moving
5 minutes for shooting
5 - 10 minutes for assaulting

How long do you guys normally take, and what can I do to speed him (and me) up? I would just like to finish a game for once!

How old are you? If its what you and your mates do, a beer can help. Don't get sloshed, I'm not recommending that, but a beer or two over the course of a game can help calm him down, let him relax, take it a wee bit less seriously.

I have a similar friend, and the beer option was out, but it had a surprising amount of success just telling him what he was doing. Have you brought it to his attention just how long he takes? When we brought it to our friends attention, he was surprised at how long he was taking, and we came to a mutual agreement to set time limits, 10 or so mins for deployment, 10 mins for each phase (he never played a horde army, mostly low model count crimson fist lists, it woulda had to be more if he played heaps of foot troops) which was actually an improvement, and he'd regularly finish before the time was up after doing that for a while.

I wish I had time for all the game systems I own, let alone want to own...

We are old enough to drink (thankfully!) 25 and 28.

Downside is we normally have to drive to each other, so it would only work if I drove to him.
He seems to take it as such an important life changing decision at times! If I have two options I normally just go "ummm, that one". Worst case scenario? I lose. Oh well. Its only a game. Yeah its great to win, but I would rather just enjoy it. I fielded a Boomwagon, Zzap Guns & a SAG Mek the other day, why? Because I think they are fun and hilariously orky!

I have mentioned to him once before and he just shrugged it off. Might have to mention it again to him and say I will limit myself to the same timescale which is only fair (despite me having 3x/4x as many models on the table!)

Under the couch

Kick him in the fork?

Maybe just try playing some smaller games. It could be that he'll speed up as he gets more comfortable with the game and his army.

Or institute a house rule where if you run out of time to play, and it's your turn, you lose...

Some people do take far, far too long deciding where to put their units, what to do etc.
I suspect it's a symptom of pyscological disorder rather than just being a dick. Dunno, play with other people.

Unnessesarily extravegant word of the week award goes to jcress410 for this:

I think we will have to revert to 500/750pt games for a while as its just getting ridiculous. Out of the 15 or so games we have had we have made it to turn 4 in only 3 of those I think.

lol! I wouldn agree. I don't know many players and I'm not the sort of guy who can go out and have a game with a random person. (Well not yet maybe in the future)
