Subject: Eldar in the 6th edition, over getting the shortest end of the stick in the new rules!

alright im opening this discussion because i want to hear peoples opinions on the new rules related to the eldar!
My first couple of thought:
- Swooping Hawks are relatively useful again as Haywire is godly now.
- Mech has been weakened severely overall, Eldar is no exception. Shooty Dire Avengers will do reasonably alright (but they can't hide in a Wave Serpent too safely as now Stunned affects you even if you disembark next turn) but stuff like Banshees have taken a massive hit.
- The new powers are tolerable and even a few decent ones in there but I think the majority of Eldar players are going to just stick with the codex powers as they are more consistent.
- Shining Spears are harder to shoot down! Jink + Skilled Rider = awesome.
- Witchblades have been pooooowerrrrrrreddd d dooooowwwwwwwn against vehicles. Not useless by any stretch but definitely not amazing vs AV.
- On the flipside, Seer Council members with Destructor will be absolutely brutal to charge against. Very nice.
- Pathfinders got a nice boost with the new Sniper rules! target selection, ap1 shots on a 5 or 6 roll to hit.
- Our Jetbikes are pretty mindblowing right now. I'm still trying to wrap my head around whether they are now "awesome" or "totally awesome". Hammer of Wrath will mean lots more targets of opportunity for charging with bike units, especially if you keep Doom in the army.
- Assult units have been made near useless, now that fleet is a universal special rule that just allows us to reroll our run move in the shooting phase, units like harliquins, and banshees have been made useless to attempt to do a full potential 18inch move to charge, and yes i know someones going to say, they do still have a potential 18 since charging is 2d6, but the chances of rolling 6 on two separate dice are very small odds, while it use to be a garanteed 12 for move and charge, and the veriable is only the fleet.
- holo-fields have been made useless thanks to... HULL POINTS! YAY! -.- now all enemies need to do is glance to strip hull points, making holo-field effect alot less patronising and not worth the cost.
- singing spears have been made near OP against vehicles, not only do they get the strength 9 against vehicles, since the rules for singing spear operate on the same level as the witchblade, it also gets armourbane, 2d6+9 against any vehicle!, well maybe not monolith but then again, glance 4 times and monoliths destroyed anyways.
- new rapidfire rules making the shiriken catipult and dire avengers version alot less effective, allowing any space marine squad or rapidfire weapon to shoot 1 shot at max range or 2 in half its range, makes a hit and run tactic for dire avengers using its 18inch range advantage useless.
Just a few initial thoughts. anything else please post and discuss to your hearts content and try not to argue to much.

you might want to look at the FAQ and rending rules before you make your decision on harlequins.

Their previous good builds have been nerfed, and other, previously poor/mediocre options, are better. Hull points in particular hurt Eldar, a lot, probably more than anyone else, but jetbikes and a lot of infantry units got better

New Heavy Gear Log! Also...Grey Knights!
The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts. |

Fleet also allows you to reroll one or both your charge distance dice, so it is not that useless.

Except that, how often do Eldar units want to charge into combat?
Scorpions do, but don't get Fleet. Banshees do, but are going to have serious issues with the new Overwatch rules (which, in theory, seems to be the kind of thing that the Banshee Mask should deal with). The rest are very situational - at best.

Well I play DE, so often. It far more effective with the open top vehicles I get. But I agree its not very iseful for the craftworld kin.

I think they've gotten a bit weaker. I love my banshees, and I always (had) a unit of 10 banshees led by doomseer in serpent. Now I'll have to reconsider. Problem is, all the units that are now "amazing", are the ones which nobody wanted in 5th ed, and I don't feel like buying overpriced finecast shining spears to get the good units. Its really just too expensive to get the better units in acceptable quantities now.
Not to mention that pretty much all eldar infantry weapons are assault weapons and so rapid fire rules doesn't affect them at all.

Then Horus comes across the lone grot, somehow managing to kill the Emperor, and punts it into space. |

agreed. now eldar assault weapons are useless too. the speed and tactical advantage of things like dire avengers have vanished since rapidfire weapons can shoot at 24inches even after moving, enemies like space marine rolling to hit and wound on 3's are devastating to eldar as it is and now rapidfire has been made even more powerful eldar are obsolete.
