Did not see this in earlier threads though I may have missed so sorry for a double post.
A friend who plays eldar says he is concerned that his singing spear lances will fall under the category of a power lance in the generic power weapons section of the rulebook.
i explained that since the SS lances have the ability to shoot they are not a generic power weapon thus do not qualify for that category.
Dont have my eldar dex but i am sure it has another rule that disqualifies it from the generic power weapon rule.

They are now AP3 is CC. However remind him that his Shining spears did get a pile of other buffs... still not worth their cost though.

Even though they've been reduced to AP3 on the charge, do they also gain the benefit of being AP3 in all subsequent round of combat by being classed as Unusual Power Lances?

No, it says that they are only power weapons on the charge.

Well, it says that they are power weapons on the charge... it doesn't say "only". And, while I would not be surprised were it not the case, the BRB is pretty vague on exactly which weapons are supposed to use the new "Unusual Power Weapon" templates. I wouldn't play them as power weapons in subsequent round unless I could find something to support it, but it begs the question: what exactly does a weapon have to be in order to use the new Unusual rules? Do the Shining Spears count? Why, or why not? (because I'm having trouble finding anything either way, myself)

The Laser Lance (and Star Lance) are power weapons on the charge that hit with a set strength. This makes them Unusual Power Weapons and would be AP3 on the charge, with a Strength rating of X or Y (depending on weapon).
Singing Spears currently still use the Codex rules, so I have a feeling they will be seen a bit more for anti-tank (not sure which is better, 2D6+3 on 2-3 attacks or 1-2 attacks at D6+9).

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Strenght 9 +D6 is way better.
Witchblades/Singing spears are now worse. As is most of the eldar codex

How are Singing Spears worse? As the rules for them have not been changed they are just as useful (if not more so) as before.

There is even a special listing for power lances in the rulebook with +1 str on the charge. Ap3 on the charge and ap4 after. Although the eldar codex has their own special rules for them.

sory for the hijack but i wonder this as well.
The weapon appendix seems to not show wounding on 2+ for Singing Spears (thrown weapon) or the 9+ d6 vs armor. Are they just thrown weapons at eldar Str now?

The rule book lists them as Strength: User, Armour bane/Flesh bane
Always wounds on a 2 against Toughness is the same
But they used to be Strength 9 + D6 verses Vehicles
12 on average
Now 3+ 2D6 equals 10 on average

Witchbblades are User Strength, Fleshbane/Armourbane.
Singing Spears still use the rules from Codex: Eldar wwhich states they are Strength 9 vs Vehicles (unless Singing Spears are in the main rulebook somewhere (cannot look right now, brother swiped y copy).

12" STR X AP6.
Nothing about 2+ wounding or STR 9. Not even an asterisk to refer to the codex. Does X mean "look at the codex" ?
