I have been considering the possibility of giving vehicles additional hull points with the units which are designated to do so. That being guys like Tech Marines, Canoptek Spyders, etc.

Wondering if anyone has mathammer this out to see if it's even a decent choice. My gut tells me that the higher the armor of the vehicle you repair, I believe the more efficient repairing becomes. Your opponent has to dedicate bigger and stronger guns to remove hull points off those vehicles.

In effect, this means your opponent has to:

1. Dedicate even more guns to totally eliminate all the hull points off a vehicle in 1 round.
2. Shoot the repairers instead (with Canoptek Spyders being tough as hell that isn't a good choice)

Even if you are replacing 2-3 Hull Points a round, that can be a fairly substantial amount of firepower that you are soaking each round, especially on AV 13+ vehicles. Now don't get me wrong.

Sure, my oppponent can get lucky on rolls or even have a huge amount of anti-tank, but I am wondering if there's a "break even" point on where you should be to make this even an efficient or effective decision for an army.

With AP1 getting +2 on the vehicle damage table your break even point is about two penetrating AP1 shots.

Yes, for light vehicles hull points will mean they get glanced to death. Repairing MIGHT be feasiable if you have a parking lot.

But if your are repairing something like a land raider, I don't really see it being effective.since odds are a good melta shot can make your work go poof.

The other issue is the army slot that 'repair' unit will occupy - some armies are already very limited on 'spare' slots, especially Elites where most 'repairing' units are.

In general, I'm dubious about adding a 'repair' unit to an army list unless I have a pile of spare points left over or that same unit is already useful regardless of 'repair' ability.

It's even more complicated for units which can upgrade to gain 'repair' ability, e.g. adding a mek with Grot oiler to a Loota squad is tempting, but then the whole unit has to traipse around with the mek to do any repairs.

I'll leave the mathshammer calculations to others...

Oklahoma City, Ok.

Nice that the IG Techpriests don't count against the HQ FOC choices.
Not sure if they'd give the value back by the time you add servitors and
Chimera in. I'd definitely do it for fluff and lI think it'd look freakin' cool!

IIRC, a successful repair check only restores one hull point. By the time you add enough servitors to have a reliable success rate, you could have just bought another tank.

Fluff for the Fluff God!
