Imperial Guard have been disadvantage to necrons in 5th with nightfight killing our shooting and Immotekh lightning + Scarabs + Wraiths killing our vehicles and squads. The necron lord in a barge is also pretty annoying as he blows up vehicles good and is really dangerous to imperial guard squads that are not blobbed. 6th doesn't seem to be too much different with the same old threats and now Gaus is suddenly the bane of vehicles with hull points so how to deal with this? Now at least we can shoot stuff out to 36 inches but they get cover save which we can negate by shining search lights on them. The new necron flier list IG can deal with between Vendettas, Hydras and fortification.

Grey Knights seem like the best ally vs Necrons. Death cult or purifier unit with Rad and Psychotroke grenades seems really good vs scarabs and wraiths. Storm Raven gives us another flier without taking squadroning up if we want it. Purifiers help out vs hordes. We can take terminator troops if we want something thats decent in assault also.

Dark Angels with Belial + th/ss terminators with a cylone sounds good too but is pretty expensive.

Any other ideas?

I'm in the same boat. A friend of mine recently bought a necron army and I'm having trouble dealing with it at the moment. Granted, we haven't played many games yet and we usually only play at around te 750-1000 point mark.

My current thoughts on how to deal with it are:

- Aegis Defence Line with quad autocannon. Have the CCS firing the gun and a platoon behind the wall with them.

- cheap expendable vehicles such as griffons that can put accurate hurt down, or scout sentinels outflanking with eavy flamers. My thinking is, if they can destroy my vehicles so easily they might as well be cheap. No point bringing a plasma russ that will die to a tachyon arrow in turn 1.

- SWS with flamers and demo charge from vendetta?

Aggressively using vets in chimeras and highland charging doesn't seem to work.

I'm struggling too. If anyone else has some good strategy for necrons when playing as IG I'm all ears.

It takes around 20 shots of bs4 gauss to put two wounds on a vehicle. I'm not sure how worried you should be about vehicles being focused down with gauss. It's awkward to get into that kind of range with a tank and the ones you drive up close tend to be cheap. Perhaps you can play around a gauss centric enemy's need to devote huge bricks of small arms fire to accommplish any chore by throwing crappy little investments at him.

Scarabs also don't have the cover saves and are harder to find cover for than before. Point those blasts or multi lasers or autocannons at them or bubble wrap your important tanks with crappy 50 point squads.

Wraiths can be tricky but most ig I've played don't tend to rely on low ap anyway unless we're talking about drop vets. They are harder to focus down with their ability to stay out of sight and hard to bubble wrap for because they get their choice for picking fights.

There are so many different necron possibilities though, it's hard for me to give you solid advice here. I hope some of this was helpful. I'll try to think more about the units you mentioned later.

It's just a show, I should really just relax... It's just a show, I should really just relax... It's just a show, I should really just relax... It's just a show, I should really just relax...

Aegis defence line is best for cover and your tanks behind it getting 4+ cover is awesome and with camo netting giving that tank a 3+ cover makes it almost indestructible. For scarabs run some flamers as special weapons. Weight of fire will bring down his tougher units so you shouldnt need expensive plasma or melta so try some flamers. Use your tanks to blast whatever there is thats the biggest threat(LRBT is preferred for its range) I personally dont have much trouble with necrons unless its the dreaded cron fliier spam which Ive heard so much about but no one in my meta has that many fliers so I havent played anything close to that yet. Played against a flier spam but LRBT and flamers just won me the game. If you have chimeras hull heavy flamers lead the way. Against there guass weapon blobs use long rand artillery or larg blast to knock out a lot of their guys so when you advance they have less of a chance of hurting you.
