Subject: Burna Boyz and power weapons ?

I love the new rules in regards to burna boyz. I have a question on how others think their "power weapons" should be run.
I've been running them as S-User AP-3, but I wonder if an argument could be made to use them as an axe or a maul ?
They don't have any strange rules other than they count as a power weapons when used in close combat, so i don't feel they are unusual power weapons.
Thoughts ?

This will probably be FAQed in awhile. Personally, I wouldn't feel riled if my opponent claimed that their burnas were power axes or whatever, but were I to run burnas, I'd use them as power swords, as that's kind of the default that was indended.

No, counting as a template weapon in the shooting phase, and not a power weapon in other phases definitely is.

Well, you can always look at the power weapon, which is a burna wielded in close combat.
Is it a sword or dagger? No, so it's not a power sword.
Is it and axe or halberd? No, so not a power axe.
Is it a lance or spear? No, so not a power lance.
But, if it's a blunt weapon, like a mace or staff. Well, I think a burna would definately be a blunt weapon.
So my best guess it that in cc the burna would use the stat line of a power maul.
Other thoughts?

Being that it is not necessarily even a power weapon, I am not sure how you can assume it is a normal power weapon. Or am I reading the wrong rules again?

A burna in CC is a blowtorch. I'd say it is an Unusual Power Weapon so is strength as user and AP3.

A burna counts as a power weapon in any combat where it had not been fired previously. the reason for this, fluff wise, is that they take the time to re-adjust the nozzles to be cutting torches rather than flame throwers. IMHO they should be treated as a power sword in the new rules.
now a FAQ to give them a unique profile, like STR 7 AP 2 2d6 to Pen vehicles would be nice, but probably will not happen.

Codex:Orks page 45, "A burna may be used in the Shooting phase with the profile below, or as a power weapon in an assault, but not both in the same turn."
So if you don't burn someone down, you can use it as a power weapon.
So the next can of worms, the restriction only applies if the burna was used as an assault weapon in the Shooting phase.
So, could you fire with in in the Assault phase on overwatch and then still use it as a power weapon? Makes burns really scary to launch an assault at.

That's already a thread, time wizard!
But really, my point was the weapon has unique rules, which precludes it from being a normal one.

Don't think that FAQ change is gonna come seeing as they lost the vehicle penetration bonus in the switch from their previous codex to their current one.

There's nothing that says it is a blowtorch.
There is no such weapon as an Unusual Power Weapon.
The power weaon rule even sayd to look at the model to tell which typw of power weapon it has.
The closest a burna comes to is a blunt weapon like a maul. Automatically Appended Next Post: kirsanth wrote:That's already a thread, time wizard!

Well the rule in the Ork Codex says it's a power weapon provided it wasn't used in the shooting phase.
The question is which of the 4 types of power weapon would it be.
And I missed the other thread, I have to look for it and contrbute something there!
Thanks again kirsanth!

It is not a close combat weapon.
It is a special rule of a weapon that allows you to use it as a template weapon or as a power weapon.
This is a Unique special rule.
Therefore it is (probably) an Unusual power weapon as defined at the top right hand of page 61.
Note, I have been looking at the other threads around unusual power weapons, so i may be over emphasising things possibly.

Stopped reading too soon. Thanks for correcting me and apologies to A Town Called Malus.
It would seem that the burna in cc would be an unusual power weapon, S User, AP3, Melee.

Don't worry about it. We're all still getting used to these new rules and it's perfectly understandable that we haven't got the book memorised completely yet
